"Sitting on the porch...I like the sparse picking of the banjo and the accordion accompaniment that backs this tune. The singer has a very retro sound to his voice with some cool lyrics to work with. "He's living the hard life cuz he sold his soul." I like those lyrics and all the rest of them as well. I could see this at a bluegrass festival. The arrangement is pretty sparse as it needs nothing to hide behind. The instruments used lend to the down home, sitting on the porch with friends feel to this song. This reminds me of old school country music with a dash of blues thrown in for good measure. Very heartfelt and passionate delivery of the vocals. The violins add a nice down home feel to this piece. The recording is pretty decent and all the instruments are clearly heard, don't step on each others toes and occupy their own sonic space. Not much constructive criticism that I can offer, this is just right and perfect in its own way. Keep up the good work. Extra Credit: Mood."--Triptofan Varina, Iowa August 16th, 2008
"Cool! I like the sax intro, the vocalist, and especially the female vocals. The chord changes are unique, and I can't help but wish I was hearing the wide open recording instead of the "smooshed" sound of an mp3 file. I bet you guys(and gals!) are smokin' live. I hope you play out and gig a lot, because we need to see and hear more of this type of real music out there...keep up the good work. jt Extra Credit: Female Vocals, Melody, Originality."--SmokedTurkey Columbus, Ohio August 4th, 2008

"Peace and Harmony...You are on dangerous ground using horns, it can easily sound cliche'd! Lucky it doesn't for you :) I thought the song was good. It walked a narrow track between being infinitely familiar and totally original. The vocal arrangements were awesome, seemed very 60's to me. All the vocalists were brilliant and the writing was great. The guitars and drums were tight. Maybe try putting a bass in? The lead guitar was beautiful when it came in - very evocative. I loved the lyrics. The production quality is high. Well done, I would listen to this again and I will, right now :)"--Samholden June 21st, 2008
"Old Timey? Using traditional instruments in this format is near genius, Bravo! This style is not my forte. But, you've got me listening to everything from the sax to mandolin. Great stuff. "Nice...Very interesting sound, very different. I like the slide on the harmonica (??), instrumentation is a great backing in most parts...The variety of instruments is fantastic, there is always something new to listen to. Great work! "I'll meet you in the Desert!...I'm getting a Talking Heads and Nick Cave hanging out in cowboy hats vibe from this song, and I'm definitely liking it. I see heat mirages rising up from the desert ground while this plays. Definitely creates a mood! Can't wait to hear it again!
AS for the specific requests:
vocals -overall good, but seems a little effect y
guitar- I really like the tone, and the fact that its slightly muted in the mix; not overdone, which could have easily resulted since there's a lot of soloing/ jamming as the song goes on...but again, i loved it!
production - really really clean, love it. a+...Extra Credit: Production, Mood, Coolest Chill-Out Track."--LomLom Hillsborough, North Carolina June 4th, 2008
"Great mix of Instruments...The Sax mixes in with fiddle very well, the guitars sound dry and dusty, conjuring images of dirt roads in rural Mississippi. The vocals and lyrics fit in very well with the rest of the song, leading to a satisfying crescendo. A couple of the Sax ornamentations seem a little out of place, and I didn't get the whistle. But on the whole this was a great piece. Extra Credit: Mood."--Jjobeanship Overland Park, Kansas May 19th, 2008
"Painted Truth...Nice classical guitar, it keeps the song moving. The vocals are reminiscent of Lennon & McCartney, even in the imagery of the lyrics. They paint a pretty harsh picture, but it is truth. A very nice orchestral sound with the brass and strings. It's strange that it can sound so influenced, but still so original."--Cognizance, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 6th, 2008
"Decent...good sound here, with a nice guitar playing...I do like the mood you created...Good intermezzo-part with nice instrumental choices. All together a decent piece of music..."--BertR Makkum (Fr), Zh, Netherlands April 27th, 2008
"Good stuff...The opening music has airs of early 70s psychedelic rock, building nice with confident vocals until the unexpected horns arrive. The use of female vocals harmonizing with the male is good and pulled off to good effect. Well performed throughout. Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Female Vocals."--TheICARUS Uk, United Kingdom May 15th, 2008
"Interesting but pretty ordinary...The lead vocal had emotion but the basic song was sleepy. Overall production seemed good, interesting strings"--Richard_Ripley Westfield, Indiana May 13th, 2008
"True to pop...Really liking the guitar sound...The saxophone was good to hear, it's not a very commonly used instrument in this genre. Vocals are well performed and the melody is very pleasant...Good use of instruments and everything is very well played...Overall the production and arrangement of the track is very true to the genre, very shiny, safe and a little corny. These aren't necessarily bad things, it's all just very true to the genre."--Indygo Gants Hill, United Kingdom May 10th, 2008
"Edwin McCain-ish...The intro didn't really match what your verse was trying to say. I was thinking soulful lilting ballad...Vocals are okay...The Production is tight...The song is honest and believe-able and this song is love-able :-)"--ChrisNathan1 Nashville, Tennessee May 11th, 2008
"Andraeus Vollenweider!! You probably don't know who I'm talking about. This song reminds me of New Age Alternative music I remember hearing years ago. Very elaborate production! It's almost too long, but stops just in time!...No matter what else, it is very creative and that always gets extra points from me! "Golden Blues...I like the raw, rough & ready nature of this. It's got an old time feel about it. This has definitely got that "something" that all music needs to lift it out of the mediocre and forgettable"--Captain_Melted Glasgow, Scotland May 6th, 2008
"Excellent slow 1920's Blues Rag...I've just been to Chicago in the 1920's. This is an excellent song with a great feeling for the era: Very good vocals and good lyrics.
A most interesting spartan acoustic backing which really works well. This song could easily fit into a "Chicago" style musical show - I can almost see the Fosse dancers from here. Congratulations."--Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Production, Lyrics, Melody, Beat, Mood, Originality, Best Potential Movie Soundtrack."--NigelSpiers Christchurch, New Zealand May 6th, 2008
"The Pirate...I really dug this. I initially thought of Rainy Day Woman by Dylan. The combination of instruments showed a kind of indescribable class. The lyrics were wicked, as well as they way they were pronounced. Hope I can steal it for free when I'm done with this. Ha ha. "Solid Track...The opening saxophone is a welcome addition. The consistent strumming and beat are feel good and easy on the ears. His vocals are great in that they fit the upbeat, country esque feel of the song. Also female backing vocals add a bit more to the already well done track. The production as a whole is radio ready in my opinion. Well done all around. Good solid tune! "Very cool and different...almost starts out sounding like Floyd and then gets this Danzig thing going on. two of my fav bands:) the horns are very cool and remind me of something morphine would do. I would almost play the Danzig thing out more on the vocals and really make it rule!! I also wish the chorus was heavy and big. Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Originality."--Andy2121 Richardson, Texas May 8th, 2008
"Country biker rock...Took awhile to get into the actual song. I generally like this style of bad ass biker country... Tarantino a bit out in the desert. There are a lot of original ideas used in this song...Overall I dig this. Keep rocking what you do. Extra Credit: Mood."--JonRaven New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada May 7th, 2008

"Very Original...Fire That Hog Up! Heh heh! Well, no doubt this is gonna be a rocker!! 70's Rock Influenced guitar solo was interesting choice. Caught my ear...! Mood and feel of the song is a sexy lazy kind of oozing soul...reminds me of something in the movie Pulp Fiction. This has got to be one of the more original tunes on Garage Band... though I have to admit, it doesn't sound remotely country at all, but labels can be so subjective...Story line was well written, and told with feeling. Overall great slow rock number...a little too much distortion for my taste, that said, very daring and unique effort! Extra points awarded for originality."--DJmeca Newmarket, New Hampshire April 19th, 2008
"Good song...sounds kinda like the Doors. Doesn't sound country, Like the music though. Great production work and guitar work. The vocals are good, suit the song and over all feel. Very interesting sound effects. Good job"--Hitsongs1 Toronto, Ontario, Canada April 30th, 2008

Roxy? I tried to get a feel for this tune then it hit me, the Roxy Music influence and it totally made sense.
The kooky vocal and the intricately eccentric backing make this song very entertaining. The keyboards and vocals are the standouts. "The definition of experimental...I love reviewing experimental Rock because most of the artists get the fact that music is to be explored and that there are no rules. This song gets that! I really like the Sax and the harmonies on this song. The male/female vocals go well together and the only thing close to what I can compare this song to would be early LA-Band X. Nice work! Extra Credit: Production, Originality."--DPSTANLEY Blaine, Minnesota April 1st, 2008
"Oh Know...The intro sets up a mellow, laid back groove with some angry yet minimal vocals. The singer has a cool delivery style that matches the laid-back groove of the music. Reminds me of John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band. Classic and arty. The mix is perfect, all the instruments are clearly heard and placed. this also has hints of Pink Floyd throughout. There is a nice saxophone weaving a melody through the song as well to add to the laid back vibe. Overall, great guitar playing and a nice vibe..."--Triptofan Varina, Iowa April 12th, 2008
"Can you feel it? The rythmic drums r great. I can tell the Phil Collins is an inspiration to you. The production value is top quality. I would like to see some performance of this song, maybe live it would be even better:) I like the female vocals, good touch. And the horn section is a nice plus. Extra Credit: Female Vocals."--Garyl4 Sacramento, California April 17th, 2008

"The Blues? Uh, not sure what to make of it. At least it is original, although don't thinks it fits the blues genre. More Art-Folk stuff. "Nothin...Clear upfront mix in this rather oddly put together ditty. Slide and maybe banjo do a great job in framing the leads almost monotone rendition of poetry. Song has a ton of emotion in the second verse and must be given credit for originality. Extra Credit: Mood, Originality, Coolest Chill-Out Track."--Firhollow Sonora, California April 20th, 2008
"Quirky...I love how this track is all loose and stuff. Almost experimental more than Blues. Its got a bit of Zydeco, some southern charm to it. Maybe closer to a Tom Waits track than Blues. The production is great, there was room for everything in the mix, and while the instruments were all kind of doing their own thing, they never felt like any of them shouldn't be there. Great work, interesting and original. Extra Credit: Drums, Production, Mood, Originality."--Canadianalog Toronto, Ontario, Canada April 22nd, 2008

"A beautiful acoustic piece indeed...FULL RICH GUITAR SOUND coming out... voice joins the tune and I love the clarity and mood of the singer... now it gets to the chorus but it is weird the fact that the chorus "kind of" takes me out of the initial mood... but when it comes back to the lead singer alone it becomes perfect again.. This is a very personal appreciation, I guess some people won't agree with me. I guess the lead singer is overdubbing his voice and there is only one additional person helping out. This is beautiful song...Aside from that.. I will truly like to know what guitar they use.. it sounds beautifullll to my ears. GREAT JOB! "Cool percussion...I love the way the song starts with the deep percussion sounds. It really grabs your attention. By the time the voice comes in the listener is hooked. The vocals blend well with the instruments. I like the lyrics--they're sort of universal and seem intimate as if they're meant for the listener. Nice harmonies and strings. Great song!"--Silken Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada April 22nd, 2008

"Very odd tune...This is an odd take on the blues, complete with slide guitar and acoustic rhythm. I couldn't tell if I liked it or not for the first minute but it grew on me. The lyrics are catchy sung dryly until the singing and feeling both pick up. Then I really got into it. You're either gonna love this or hate it as it's too different for everybody. Put me on the side that likes it."--Denlore123 Upstate, New York April 4th, 2008

"You'll either love this or hate it...Imagine Ranger Doug from Riders in the Sky doing an out take from Tom Waits' Swordfish trombones backed by a Salvation Army Band using patched together instruments. This had me captivated from the opening string pluck to the final tenor sax gasp. It has this wonderfully organic homemade feel and manages to be a living amalgamation of blues, country, old-time gospel, and New Orleans funeral jazz band. This would have been fantastic to use over the final credits for HBO's "Deadwood". Extra Credit: Originality, Best Potential Movie Soundtrack."--GenoHaffner Nashville, Tennessee April 8th, 2008
"Can this be the blues? It starts with a ukulele I think, Very percussive. And yet there is a tinge of an eastern influence too...The voice isn't a typical blues voice, it is very nice though and with an American accent. There is a wonderful glide of instruments which swoop in after the first couplet (0:08). It sounds like a wheezing, dying effort, a bit like an old squeeze box and very effective it is too! The words are great and perfectly suited to this swaggering weary music which, apart from the eastern tinge is also reminiscent of New Orleans jazz. This music is the blues alright, world weary and melancholic yet strangely uplifting at the same time. So, the orchestration is quite brilliant and unique. I hear a sax (or clarinet),strings and horns swooning (weariness?) while in contrast the tambourine and percussive uke dance relentlessly (perhaps symbolizing determination). The words are intelligent and intriguing concerning a man condemned. It is all incredibly evocative,
"He can't wait for that dying cos the dyings already here. He'll never be nothing until he is dead." A whistle blows and the singer shoots up an octave. This is wonderful, short, with tons of character melody and pain. This is painful but laughingly beautiful. Good blues. Extra Credit: Lyrics, Melody, Mood, Originality."--Gilderfish, N'pton, United Kingdom April 11th, 2008
"Me and my daddy, and the ghosts...The crying harmonica that opens the tune is a nice compliment to the bare bones rhythm of the guitar. The singer has an inviting low-key approach, and paints a nostalgic picture of driving down a lonely road with his dad. The Native flute that comments on the finding of arrowheads is nice...The overall feel is lonesome and as sparse as the desert it describes. The lyric is solid, suggesting more than telling, which is good for this kind of moody tune. Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Drums, Lyrics."--Jpoet, San Francisco, California January 19th, 2008

Appropriate vocal and nice violin too...Extra Credit: Originality."--Briansteenstry, Delavan, Wisconsin March 4th, 2008
"Blue Grass Feel...
1. I like the old country blue grass feel. This sound combined with the level of production squeezed out of this song can only lead to one thing....
2. Awesome structure, especially the vocal/instrumental lead ping/pong at the end...a great sense of showmanship and patience within music, A TRUE GREAT SONG.

"Sweet...Like it...like it...like it...like it. You remember the good old comedic westerns like Blazzing Saddles. I could easily see this song in that kind of movie. You think anyone is going to make a western again. What was the last one that did well seriously, not like hey that's a good renter, like, wow, you really need to go see that new western in the movies."--Brettfuentes, Rahway, New Jersey March 7th, 2008
"This is beyond the blues...This is despair. I like the New Orleans sound to it. It's maybe too sad for most people. I like the mocking saxophone and the vocals sound good. It's an interesting song, but tragic."--Mr_mman, Nashville, Tennessee March 15th, 2008
