Description:

Sandstone Corridor is a delightful collection of poems. It is a journey to the poetic world of love and beauty, virtue and flaw, trials and tribulations. Here is a poet who can write with startling clarity about his physical surrounding and the world of sensation. Gopal Lahiri, being an earth scientist, travels a lot in remote areas and long years in isolation-studying in hills-his quest, enthusiasm and intense interest in nature have left an indelible impression in his poems. His major philosophical enquiry as evident in his first poem collection- Flicker of Hope (published from Lulu) -revolves around the problems of personal identity, love, alienation and sufferings. The beautiful poems with striking images and lovely metaphors are laid out in a novel way designed to help each reader to savor each one to the full. Each poem of this collection is original, refreshing and stands on its own merit. His controlled and delightful poems are meant to be heard, to be felt and to be visualized.

Here is a contempory poet whose writing casts a spell upon its readers, a powerful elixir of images, a virtual stroll down the path that he walks. His style, unique and absorbing takes his devoted reading audience on a journey that exposes senses, strikes a nerve, cleanses the soul.

Gopal Lahiri paints a finely textured picture of thoughts and emotions with his skillfully sculpted words in verse. Sandstone Corridor, as Flicker Of Hope, are a tribute to this writer...and the world that he sees. Explore this author's vision, poetic masterpiece.

I LOVE the poetry and prose of Gopals' kind and spiritual heart + soul. Although (and because) he paints his words on the page differently than me - I can STILL see the beauty, the joy, and (yes) the pain of the world through these well-etched and well-sung pieces. Gopal has a unique style all his own which he alone (and no one else can be) the master of. A Powerful and Masterful collection, to say the least! I have found his work on THE POETRY CORNER interesting and enlightening. NOW everyone can see and experience his poetic masterpieces of truth for themselves in this wonderful + thought provoking collection.
Love + Peace!

This is another book of stunning moods, covering all the moods of a person; from the darkly powerful "Numbness" to the lovingly written "Footprints of love". and all the others in between. A wonderful collection.

It is a genuine pleasure to commend these poems to your closest attention. Gopal has an ability to find poetry where noone else would imagine it to exist. One example is: "An empty coffee mug on the table". Seen in isolation this is utterly prosaic, but in the context of the poem called Eloquent Past it is a line of genius. Excellent is a poor epithet for this work, but the best I can presently find.

For those new to the works of this great Wordsmith, then you'll have to pardon me for reviewing from the vantage point of knowing some of Gopal's works to date. This a is a surprising but delightful departure from Gopal's usual style, where ironically through Metaphor, you can almost smell the roses, and the Jasmine, in his own back garden. You don't quite get that with this collection, but nor are you meant to, for it is more Universal. These are musings on life and culture but in a Cosmopolitan style, which we can easily identify with, where much of the verse is literal musing, but still poetic, and of the highest quality. But there is still enough of the minimal and/or abstract to make you think. Where is the 'big house' in the first piece? Tuscany? India? Araby? Berkshire? Who knows, maybe everywhere. And 'no longer his Daughter'? Is this the saddest possibility, or adulthoood? Only Gopal knows, and decorum dictates we don't ask, here or elsewhere. As Gopal, and other greats on here like Owa, know only too well, I came to Lulu without much of an appreciation of 'real' poetry. That is no longer the case, thanks in no small measure to this heaven sent Bard.

Another great book of poetry by Gopal Lahiri, full of inspiring, touching, powerful poetry. Some of the poems leave you speechless, without words to describe them.
Brilliant work, Gopal.
