Description:

In this collection of short fiction, F. Lee Miller explores relationships between lovers, neighbors, brothers, friends, strangers, and couples in various stages of life.

The characters in these stories are sometimes odd, sometimes pathetic, sometimes hateful and cruel, and sometimes wonderfully loving. But they are always someone you know, or someone you want to know.

Meet an eccentric uncle, a willfull 13-year-old and his cruel step-father, a curious and insightful young boy facing the death of his father, a bully on the verge of change, even a dead Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald still trying to work out their differences.

These stories pose questions, but don't always provide the answers. Sometimes it's enough to just be reminded of the questions.

I am hard to please when it comes to literary fiction, but this collection of short stories pleased me immensely. After reading it, I bought another copy to send to my mother, as I am sure she will enjoy it as well.

Mr. Miller has the gift of knowing just how to make emotion jump from the page into the heart of the reader. Every one of these stories is touching. Some are funny and some are sad, but you feel every emotion as if it were happening to you as you read.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to read good literary fiction. It will move you.

Thanks, Lee, for writing these stories, and I hope you will write more very soon.

The short-story form continues to be a rich and fertile vein of literary expression. F. Lee Miller has managed to compile twenty-one stories in this collection that are nostalgic and full of colourful characters with whom each of us can identify. He brilliantly masters the distinctive power and beauty of the form—with each story bringing a unique vision to the page.
