This is Dr. Elisha Mitchell's Diary of a Geological Tour in 1827-1828. Mitchell was working in Northwestern North Carolina (Ashe, Surry, and Wilkes Counties at the time). He describes the things he saw and people he encountered. This was first published in 1905 as James Sprunt Historical Monograph No. 6 by the University of North Carolina. Notes and introduction is by Dr. Kemp P. Battle, LL.D.
