This is the independent version of what is also available as the title text in 'The Radical Progress Quartet', and therefore it only deals with some of the issues explored more fully in the latter. Nevertheless it is a significant text in its own right and Mr O'Loughlin's concept of progress is never less than Baudelairean, so to speak, in its commitment to the inner life of psychological selfhood, a commitment which is taken to its logical conclusion in a concept of progress that is truly radical and far-reaching.
