Description:

Just over twenty years ago I went to my first Tottenham Hotspur football match at White Hart Lane. From that moment I was hooked. From the Lane is the story of one fan's experiences in the following of their club over two decades. It touches on the factual aspects of the games I have been to, but is centred mainly on the emotional journey that this obsession undoubtedly provides. It is written based on personal experiences, all against a real-life background that covers the vast majority of my lifetime. From that first Chris Waddle and Glenn Hoddle-inspired moment, through the years of such great players as Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker, Jurgen Klinsmann and David Ginola, right up to the current era, this story reveals how being a supporter of a football club is able to affect a human being, able to provide both sadness and joy. From the Lane is a story that all Tottenham fans, and indeed dedicated football fans everywhere, will enjoy and be able to relate to.

Not just a football book [ No Rating ] 15 Nov 2007

Having been quite sceptical at the idea of this book I am pleasantly surprised. Even though I'm not a football fan I found this a very enjoyable read and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. It's not just about football but relates to the highs and lows of life as well. I look forward to reading more from this aspriing author
Interesting and enjoyable read

A very enjoyable account of life as a Tottenham fan over the last two decades. The author describes how he started out as a Spurs fan as a young boy and how he lived through the ups and downs (mainly downs!) of being a Spurs supporter as he grew with the club. In fact at times it seems that the club helped him learn about how to deal with disappointments in life, while at the same time he clearly revels in the team's triumphs. I'd recommend this to all Spurs fans as a worthwhile additon to their book shelf and also to all football fans as a worthwhile read.

This is an excellent and very personal account of what it's like growing up as a Spurs fan. The well-written match reports brought back memories of being at the games myself. A very enjoyable read.

"From the Lane" is a well-written and warming account of the frustrations of supporting Tottenham Hotspur over the past two decades. Its from the perspective of loyal fan who stayed true to his club through thick and thin. Rather than attemping to cover a unique aspect of football this book is a real story of life at the lane with all its highs and lows! I recommend this book to anyone who grew up in the 80s and 90s with a genuine love the beautiful game.

This book was a joy to read, as Oliver Wright became hooked on Spurs from about the same time I started following Tottenham myself and all the seasons described in the book brought back a lot of wonderful memories. The way Oliver describes his devotion to the Lillywhites is very recognizable to most Spurs fans. After all the ups and downs from the past two decades, we all hope that the next season will finally bring the success we dream off. The book describes the seasons from 1987 until now, including the Martin Jol era. "...From The Lane..." is a well written book that every Spurs fan will enjoy.
