The dragons who once ruled, but were driven away by the now destroyed Laetraen Empire, have returned. Follow one woman as she seeks knowledge and ultimately confronts the newly returned dragon in the city of Qadis. This 7000 word short story is part of the Republic of Savrilla cycle the includes "The Poisons of Aemida" that is available on Lulu.com for free, "A Dread and Dire Work", "The Strangers of Racontal" and "The Gaol of the Republic".
As an author, I attempt to write characters caught up in worlds of mystery and horror, keeping an eye to verismilitude and psychological depth. I try to avoid most of the tedious cliches of fantasy fiction, writing for adults, mixing exoticism with gripping characterization and strong plots. My influences in fiction include H. P. Lovecraft, Robert Howard, George R. R. Martin, Roger Zelazny and Michael Moorcook.
