I was asked to go and explain the Kwanzaa celebration to my grandson's kindergarten class. This was a wonderful opportunity to spread cultural health. I went in my African American business cloths and changed (behind a movable puppet stage) into my African Kwanzaa self. Great fun was had by all.
This was a wonderful learning experience for me, my grandson, his multiethnic class and teachers.
This experience caused me to reflect on the following reality. This is the first generation of young Americans that will grow up with Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, as a normal part of their cultural database.
While I am happy to be and elder, this is also a wonderful time to be in kindergarten.
