This guidebook provides a thorough introduction to a unique, cutting-edge methodology for participatory drumming, dancing, and chanting. New World Rhythmatism (NWR) combines a commitment to growth and skill building with all of the spirit and play that makes these ancient arts attractive ways to relax, center, and connect with others.
NWR is a collaborative approach that utilizes a shared set of calls, gestures, and generalized frameworks to create refined group improvisations. Each individual in the ensemble participates as both leader and follower, applying the method to co-create complex musical ideas and group choreographies that spontaneously unfold over the course of each session.
New World Rhythmatism is taught in the Nevada System of Higher Education. Core principles of NWR have also been integrated into primary education classes, drum circles, fire circles, and other popular events and nondenominational rituals in the U.S. and abroad.
