Students practice all the ways they can make ten by adding positive integers and zero. (They end this short worksheet with two examples where they consider what plus one-half and what plus one and one-half make ten as well.) Learning to 'make 10' is vital, because many students use this knowledge later to add things like 7 + 5. First they consider that 7 + 3 is 10, so using 3 of the 5 leaves 2 left over, resulting in 10 + 2 which is 12.
