Tom Robinson is a very dedicated village vicar in a small parish near Melbourne, Australia. He has a cold and unresponsive wife and two spoilt daughters, as well as regular visits from an over-critical mother-in-law. Little wonder then, that he fell deeply in love with a young parishioner in a wheelchair and spent "rather too much" time with her, as well as searching for a cure for her multiple sclerosis. But such dedication, he found, has its own reward in consuming guilt.
