What I hope to have accomplished

  1. Fright House Plot: About a house that brings out its occupants worse fears.
  2. Theme: Focus on fear and ways in which each individual dealt with it.
  3. Dialogue: Conversation is based on the way I communicate verbally with others.
  4. Pacing: The stories are short, but detailed. They move through to the end smoothly.
  5. Mood: The atmosphere is dark and is consistent throughout the book.
  6. Tense: Although I know it’s best to stick with a particular point of view when writing, I have several stories where events happened at different times, so I adjusted the tense accordingly.
  7. Settings: Again, I have several stories and characters, so I tried to match the setting appropriately to each one. I wanted the stories to feel connected, but unrelated (with the exception of The Ghoul and One Night Stand).
  8. Description: I tried to convey to the reader a detailed, but not overwhelming explanation of Fright Houses environment.
  9. Characterization: I tried to make my characters as human as possible (flaws and all). I’m not perfect so why should my characters be? Hopefully, readers will come to feel a connection with the people living inside of Fright House.
  10. Senses: I hope Fright House allows the reader to see, hear, taste, smell, and feel the fear that dwells within its interior.
Your Fright House!

After reading Fright House some of you may feel as if there weren't enough visuals. Please allow me to explain a few things about why I chose to write Fright House with limited visuals. I want the reader to use his or her imagination and not mines. I want the reader to create his or her own visuals. I want those who open the book to use it as a way to confront and conquer his or her fear/s. Believe me, I have written stories with too many details and visuals. I wanted to approach the fictional horror genre in a different way, which would allow the reader to construct his or her own stories around the stories inside the book.

I hope this gives a more in-depth explanation for those of you who may feel a bit confused while reading my book. The truth is I want you to be confused. I want you to stop and think (use your own imagination and not mines). When a person opens up this book he or she should feel as if they have walked into Fright House not knowing what to expect. The reader should feel as if he or she has no other choice, but to explore and discover why these horrible things are happening.

Fright House is never the same. Each character creates his or her house. In other words, the house adjusts itself to each occupant. Fright House is your house. It is the place where you hide your fears.
