David Maybury
I was born April 29, 1953, in Quincy MA.
I lived in Redlands CA until 1963, then in Paris France until 1969.
My years in Paris were full of rich experiences for me. I fell in love with literature reading the French classics and the surrealists. I fell in love with history walking the cobblestones of Paris, and other cities in Europe. I learned with and from kids and adults from around the world.
When I returned to the U.S., I joined the Vietnam antiwar movement as a High School student. I was active in socialist politics, and the anti-racist movement in Boston during the 1970s, and anti-imperialist politics (Central America and Ireland) during the 1980s. I was involved in organizing clerical and technical workers union at Harvard University. From 1979 until 2004 I worked as a programmer, software engineer, and software engineering manager.
My first daughter Fionna was born in 1985. I married Suzanne McLeod, a painter, in 1996, and my second daughter Nora was born in 1997. I began studying Tai Chi and Buddhism in 1990s, and taught Tai Chi classes in Boston area between 1995 and 2003. I was diagnosed with Melanoma in 2002. I wrote Poked Fish, a tai chi ballet, in 2004, and performed it 11/2004. Poked Fish describes my dance with cancer.
