SATURNIA REGNA : WINTER 2007
What is Valentine's day? Where did it come from? If ever there was a holiday celebrating the virtues of monogamous romantic love, it's Valentine's day. But look just below the surface - examine the ancient poetry, art and "sacred literature" related to Valentine's Day, and you see it was originally about celebrating a kind of love that was far freer, more spontaneous and more expansive than monogamy.

Saturnia Regna (Summer 2006)
What is "romantic love?" In recent Western culture, romantic love has been equated with monogamous love, and it is presumed that any poet famous as Romantic poet must have written exclusively about MONOGAMOUS romantic love. But this has not always been so. As recently as a century and a half ago, the term "Romantic Love" referred to a something far more free and spontaneous than contemporary monogamous love and sexuality. The poets of ancient Rome, India and the European Middle Ages often championed forms of love modern people would call polyamory, swinging, free love, open relationships, or consensual nonmonogamy. This is a collection of poetry with a nonmonogamous theme.
