Storm Large - photographs by Laura Domela
This monograph is a selection of photos from a session with Storm Large in July 2005.
My motivation for photographing Storm came from watching her perform onstage. Beyond her incredible vocal talent, her musicality, and her obvious physical beauty, she is a passionate artist who visually exudes an enormous power and range of emotion. I was inspired to capture this emotion and passion photographically.
Storm delivered the same emotional energy and professionalism as a model that I had seen when she performed with her band. We developed a great rapport in the studio, speeding through some of the most productive sessions I’ve ever experienced as a photographer. Storm was creative, dynamic, and playful in front of the camera, and I was thrilled with our results.

Neon Boneyard - photographs by Laura Domela
NEON BONEYARD, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- The Neon Boneyard is a 3-acre lot filled with non-restored historic signage from the city of Las Vegas. For Las Vegas, these signs embody the character and personality of the city. Once flashy, bright, beacons of celebrity, designed to lure and entice, they are now fading and peeling under the desert sun, stacked in a locked, dirt-floored lot.
Although these signs were carefully and deliberately designed and crafted, I set out to capture in my photographs the unintentional evolution of that design.

Fietsen - photographs by Laura Domela
FIETSEN: DUTCH [V] RIDE A BICYCLE; CYCLE, [N] BICYCLES. These photographs were taken in Amsterdam, the Netherlands between 21 September and 25 September, 2005. I spent approximately an hour each day photographing bicycle commuters from an apartment on Marnixstraat, and over the span of four and a half days I photographed more than 1600 bicycles.
