I leave the writing of this book; it is with considerable apprehension, however. No one who looks at the state of the world could feel otherwise. The frequency of war, the continue election by ignorant citizens of doves and hawks worldwide and the treat of a greater war conducted with nuclear weapons is frightening and a challenge to the future of the human species. Perhaps we do not deserve to survive, but in any case if we do not we will have been the engineers of our own destruction.

Il s'agirait du rouleau de la toile de tente, roulé et fixé sur le sac et que l'on appelait volontiers boudin. C'est, peu de temps avant le départ du régiment étranger pour le Mexique, que monsieur Wilhem, chef de musique, composa cette marche qui est devenue la marche de la Légion étrangère.
