What is RSS and what does it have to do with my blog?

RSS stands for "Rich Site Summary," but some people refer to it as Real Simple Syndication. It is essentially an XML-based format for syndicating content between sites. In layman's terms, that means someone can get a feed of your blog posts to their site, and whenever you update your blog on Lulu, it will also update on their site. The RSS file is on the Lulu server, and the RSS reader (Bloglines, LJ, etc.) grabs that file, parses it, and displays the contents for you to read. The RSS file is written in XML, so it's easy to parse and usually contains the title, body and date for a blog post.

What are trackbacks?

Trackback is a way that a linking web page notifies another web page that it added a linked to the second page.

With a trackback, you send a notification (called a "ping") to a website that you have linked to on your blog. If the website that you pinged supports trackbacks, then the website that you linked automatically updates to include a link back to your post. To use send trackback notifications, enter the URLs to which you linked in your post into the Trackbacks section of the Edit Blog Post page.
