How do I find what I'm looking for on Lulu?

Not sure what you want? Click the Buy tab to enter the Lulu Marketplace and browse the vast Lulu directory of content in a number of different ways.

Click a genre or category under one of the five Media headings (Books, Calendars, Music & Audio, Artwork, and Video), to see matching items. At the resulting Browse page, the number of items available displays after the category name in the orange banner. Use the drop down list to ort by relevance, publication date, author, best sellers, or customer reviews. Click a Browse keyword to show fewer results.

When you find something interesting, click the title to show the product detail page, which provides more information about the work, including its availability, price and often a preview provided by the creator. Click the creator's name to see a bio and other works by that person.

The list on the left column provides links to all categories, headed by a link to the Top 100 Sellers at Lulu.

Use the Search feature at the top of any page to provide key words and select a media type. When you click in that area, it unfolds to display a link to Lulu's advanced search. Click the X button to redisplay the login, sign up, and shopping cart links. At the Advanced Search, you may:

  • search the entire Lulu directory by title, keywords/description, or creator's name
  • search content by language, country of publication, or both
  • search content by its license to find works you can copy, modify, adapt, or use for commercial purposes
  • perform a Google search on the Lulu site.

Note: Searches with the colon symbol ":" in them will not return results unless you enclose the whole search term in double quotes. For example, Road Tested: will not return results, but "Road Tested:" will.

Why can't I see the content I'm looking for?

If the creator has the content Access Level set to Private or Direct Access, you can neither search for nor view the content. If you know the creator, you can contact him or her directly to request access.

  • If you chose to wait, click the "My Downloads" link on the left side of the My Lulu tab to display your purchase history.
  • To save purchased download content to your computer, click the orange >Download< button next to that item.

How can I tell if the content I want is available for download?

Authors and publishers can make books available in print format, download format, or both. When you browse or search for books and artwork, the product description includes available formats and prices. If you see the word "Download" with a price next to it, that title is available as a digital download.

To purchase an item as a download, click the >Add to Cart< button next to the download price on the product detail page.

How does Lulu make recommendations?

Recommendations help customers find more products that might interest them; Lulu provides recommendations on most product detail pages.

  • In order for an item to be recommended on another product's page, the items must have been purchased together at least twice.
  • Recommendations are a random selection of 3 of the top 5 products most purchased at the same time as the one being viewed.
  • Content owners can limit a work's possible buying public; Lulu never includes Private or Direct Access in recommendations.

Product owners can show or hide recommendations for a work by logging in, navigating to the product detail page, and clicking "Show All" or "Hide" next to Recommendations.

How do I rate and/or review an item?

Be familiar with the publication—watch the DVD, listen to the CD, read the book— before you rate it. This ensures that the ratings system provides sound input to all Lulu users, including potential buyers and the publisher of a work.

Review a work

  1. Find the Reviews section at the bottom of a product detail page. Click the "Post a review" link, enter a subject, and write your opinion about the work.
  2. Click the >Post Review< button.
  3. Click the >Back to Content< button to return to the product detail page.

Rate a work

  1. The star rating system displays under the price of an item.
  2. Click on the stars to select the number of stars you want to give to the item, from 1 star (worst) to 6 stars (best). The yellow-outlined stars turn solid yellow once they recognize your action.
  3. You may change your rating, but it will replace the previous choice so that it count as one vote. After the page refreshes, the product detail page and the item listing show the updated rating in blue stars, along with an indication of the total number of voters.

Some creators disable rating and reviews for their items, so ratings and reviews are not available for all items on Lulu. For more details, see the Review Posting Guidelines.
