Chat Room Guidelines and Etiquette
Guidelines
We want the Lulu community chat room to be a safe gathering place for Lulu members of all ages. Please follow these guidelines in the chat room.
- This chat room is NOT for acquiring aid from Lulu Support. If you need help, go to Help, Forums, or Live Help.
- Use only G-rated nicknames.
- Do not use a nickname that suggests or implies that you are a member of Lulu Staff, a Community Leader, or anyone other than yourself.
- Do not use profanity or discuss topics that are inappropriate for minors.
- Be courteous to your fellow chatters. Refrain from abusive behavior.
- Do not flood the chat room with multiple posts.
- Do not advertise yourself or any other person or item. Posting links as a form of advertisement or blatant self promtion is not allowed. Casual discussions of your projects during the regular course of conversations are acceptable.
- Do not ask for or give out personal information (including e-mail addresses) in the chat room or via private message. Any mutually agreed upon contact of this nature should take place outside of the chat room.
These rooms are subject to moderation at all times. Please comply with requests or warnings issued by chat room moderators. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in permanent banning from the chat room.
Etiquette
Although the Internet provides a level of anonymity which often promotes more open and honest discussion of various topics, it is not an excuse to behave irresponsibly. There are certain forms of chat room etiquette that are standard across the Internet. Following these suggestions will help create an enjoyable environment for everyone.
- Choose a descriptive and friendly nickname before entering chat.
- If you intend to visit the chat room frequently, try to use the same nickname each time so that people may recognize you.
- Greet everyone in a friendly manner when entering a chat. Be courteous to those who enter into your chat.
- Do not post the same message repeatedly, or post in such a way that is disruptive, distracting, or may be construed as an attempt to draw everyone's attention away from the general conversation.
- Do not post in all capital letters. It is equivalent to shouting, and can be both upsetting and distracting to others.
- Please do not post using overly large or brightly colored fonts. They can be hard to read, distracting and/or considered a means to draw attention away from other chatters or the discussion topics at hand.
- Keep "leet" speak, Instant Messenger shortcuts, and smiley usage to a minimum. Many people in chat may not understand these things.
- Do not argue with others. Friendly debate is acceptable. If necessary, either use the available tools to "Ignore" a disruptive chatter, or report this chatter to the Moderators right away.
- Be patient when attempting to join a conversation with others. Joining a discussion already in progress can be frustrating, but there is no excuse for rudeness.
