- Click the Revise icon to the right of the project title that needs to be revised.
- The project summary page displays. Click the Revise icon to the right of an item on this page to modify the associated item. Some elements on this page are editable by clicking linked text.

Note: Changes to books with an ISBN are controlled by ISBN rules. If you create a new revision of a published book that has an ISBN, we automatically reassign the ISBN and its information to the new version. If you purchased a Distribution Service and make changes after approving your book, we must charge a $49.95 fee FREE. For more information, please see Can I revise or change my book without losing my ISBN?

What does each status in the Project List mean?
When you view the list of recent projects on your My Lulu tab, you see your most recently created work, including Content ID and publishing status. In your My Recent Projects list, the Status assignment indicates where the project is in the publishing process and is one of these: Draft, Published, Available, or Revising.
Note: If you click the >View all< button at the bottom of your My Recent Projects list or open your My Projects tab, you may view a comprehensive list of your projects. The Status column here contains the access status for each project instead of its publishing status. Please see What do the access levels mean? for more information.)
Draft — A work in progress has a Draft status and has not completed the publishing process. When a project is in draft status, you may conduct any of the following activities.
- Add or remove content.
- Change any of the details for the work (for example, the title, description, copyright).
- Delete the project.
- Publish the project (that is, finish the process of selecting distribution, approve conversions and cover art, set pricing, and so forth).
Published — This status indicates that you published the project but opted for the Private Access level so that you are the only one who can buy it. (For more information, please see
Available — Work available through either Direct Access or General Access shows an "Available" status. (Please see What do the access levels mean? for more information about the Direct and General Access levels.) These are published projects that customers can buy.
Retired — The project is no longer available for purchase or inclusion in other projects. Retire a project through the project detail page (click the title in the Project List), in the Availability / Project Status section.
If you click the red X delete button associated with a project, we automatically Retire rather than remove the project if it has any sales associated with it. If you delete a project that has had no sales, the project and all of its files are removed completely.
Note: You must click the >Show retired projects< button above your comprehensive My Projects list to see your retired projects in the list.

Why isn't my content showing up in the Lulu search?
If you can't find your content 24 hours after publishing it, one of the following situations may be an issue.
- Available to the public — Check your comprehensive Project List to make sure the associated Status level is set to General Access.
- Direct Access — Projects assigned a Direct Access level do not display in search results. To check, click the project's Revise icon in your Project List. If necessary, change its access level to make it searchable on Lulu.
- Content access level lower than project's maturity access level — If your content access level is lower than your older project's rating (newer projects do not have a maturity rating), you may not be able to search for your project. To check, click the My Lulu tab then click Change Access Level in the Preferences section in the left column. If the level is lower than your content's access level, you will not be able to view your content.
It may take some time for your content to be indexed in the Lulu search. Please be patient before posting to the forums.
For more details, see Why can't I see the content I'm looking for?

I'm an author—what are Thank You Notes?
Thank You Notes are Lulu's way of allowing you, the creator, to send your customers a personal note and make it possible for them to contact you by email, while ensuring that their personal information remains private.
Your Thank You Note contains a message that you write. Lulu emails it to people who buy your item and who have agreed to receive Thank You Notes. The same note goes to everyone who buys your content, even Direct Access materials, regardless of the type of content you sell. (If you have diverse content, you may consider writing a very general Thank You Note.)
To create or modify your Thank You Note
- Log into your account and click the "Edit Thank You Note" link in the left column of the My Lulu tab. The Thank You Note Editor displays.
- Enter the name, email address, and message you want to send. (The content of your Thank You Note must comply with Lulu's Membership Agreement>.)
- Click the >Save< button or the >Save & Preview< button. If you chose to preview, the system sends a test thank you note to you by email.
Note: By entering information in your Thank You Note section, you agree to allow Lulu to send this information to everyone who buys your content. Keep in mind that if you use a pen name on your content, you will probably want to use the pen name on your Thank You Note as well.
All thank you notes will show your name as the sender and have "A Lulu Thank You Note" as the subject.

How do I compose the Thank You Note to my buyers?
Create or edit your Thank You Note at the Thank You Notes Editor. (From your My Lulu tab, click the Edit Thank You Note link in the Preferences section of the left navigation column.)
Note: Your Thank You Note content must comply with the Lulu Membership Agreement. By entering information in your Thank You Note section, you agree to permit Lulu to send this information to all purchasers of your content. Keep in mind that if you use a pen name on your content, you will probably want to use the pen name on your Thank You Note as well.
- In the web form, type the name, email address, and message you would like to send to your customers.
- Click the Save button or the Save & Preview Button. If you chose to preview, a test thank you note will be e-mailed to you.
Lulu emails your Thank You Note to anyone who buys your content from Lulu. All thank you notes show your name as the sender and have "A Lulu Thank You Note" as the subject.

Can I send different Thank You Notes for different products?
No. Thank You Notes are like storefronts in that each creator is allowed only one per account. If you enable your Thank You Note, the same note will be sent to the buyers of all your content, even the content marked Direct Access. If you have diverse content available for sale in a single account (for example, a software manual, a rap CD, and a family calendar) the same Thank You Note will be sent upon purchase of each item. If this is your situation, consider writing a very general Thank You Note message.

Can Lulu give me contact information for the people who have purchased my content?
No. It is a violation of our Privacy Pledge to release customers' contact information. For creators, we suggest making your own contact information available on your storefront or through the Thank You Note program if you would like buyers to be able to contact you.

Why should I provide a preview of my work?
Previews serve as significant marketing tools for your content. They allow your potential customers to listen, see, or read a little sample of your work before buying it. It's the same as putting on headphones in the record store and listening to music or thumbing through a book at the bookstore. The maximum file size for previews is 2MB.
- Books
- Book previews are excerpts from your book. At Lulu, customers can view images of the pages in your book as they appear in the printed version. We automatically generate previews for all newly published books as well as new revisions. The number of pages in this preview depends on the size of the book, but the automatically generated preview is fewer than 10 pages.
- Calendars
- You may have noticed that thumbnail images of the monthly pictures decorate the back cover of a calendar sold in a bookstore. Many customers like to see all the images in a calendar before purchasing it. We suggest uploading a PDF or a single image file containing small versions of all your calendar images.
- Music & Audio Downloads
- Either upload your own preview or have Lulu generate one for you. The Lulu-generated preview is a full-length, low-fidelity (48Kbps/16MHz) version of your audio. If you charge for your music, you might not want a full version of your song available for free, even if it is low fidelity. In this case, upload a preview that is shorter in length but retains full quality.
- Images
- Lulu automatically generates an image preview with a large copyright symbol (©) watermark. The watermark prevents someone from downloading a high-resolution version of your image without buying it. Customers see the preview on the product details page for your image.

How do I provide a preview of my work?

or click the "View book preview" in your project page to see your book preview. - Click the "Customize preview" link above the preview.

Do I have control over my book preview?
You may choose to offer a preview for your book using one of the following methods. (See How do I provide a preview of my work?)
- Simple
- The first 10 pages of your work is the preview. This includes front matter such as title, dedication, and copyright pages.
- Design Your Own
- Determine the pages that you want the preview to include. Choose from a certain number of pages (first 5 pages, first 15 pages, the entire book) or select particular pages. Include the title page and the first few pages of your first chapter, bypassing any copyright, dedication, or table of contents pages.
- Provide the actual page order number rather than the assigned number that prints at the bottom of a page. For example, if the first three pages of a book were a title page, a blank page, and a dedication page, the number "3" would indicate the dedication page — not, say, the 3rd page in the 1st chapter.
- Separate numbers with commas.
- Use a hyphen (-) to provide a range of numbers.
- Example: "1,3,5-8" would indicate the 1st, 3rd, and 5th through 8th pages in the book.
- Upload Your Own
- Create your own preview and upload any acceptable file (Click here for the list of accepted file types.) You may provide an image, press release, brochure, or other custom content. — within the following restrictions.
- Maximum file size: 300 megabytes.
- Use the upload wizard to put your preview on Lulu. We do not accept FTP or My Lulu files.
- Maximum page count: 15 pages. Only the first 15 pages of a longer document display; you may not select individual pages from your uploaded preview file.
- Keep Current Preview
- Keeps whatever is currently set as your preview. The default is "Simple."
- Remove Current Preview
- Removes the preview for your book. Your book will not have a preview.

What does the Lulu sales rank mean?
For the benefit of the Lulu community and the shoppers who visit our site, we provide a Lulu Top 100 Best Sellers list to indicate how well each item published through Lulu is selling. (When you're browsing Lulu to buy a book, find the list by clicking the Top 100 Sellers link in the left column.)
Similar to sales ranking lists at leading bookstores and news outlets, Lulu determines the top sellers based on monetary amounts rather than number sold. (Lulu feels that authors whose books cost $19.95 shouldn't have to compete head-to-head with creators who give their content away.)
Available by timeframe (all-time best sellers, monthly best sellers, and weekly best sellers), the list includes only content that is publicly available for sale through the Lulu marketplace and has neither a "Direct access" Availability status nor a "Mature" content access level.
Note: Lulu no longer provides the self-rating content access level system, although older works may carry this creator-determined rating. Please see How do I change my content access level? for more information.
