Chaotic
like the amber rain shocking your dress
my hand will pass above every night
from night to night
I remember the pain
shy I have met it
cold marble eyes in the night
The Italian author Fabio Izzo has compiled a book of the poems he wrote during his exchange period in Tampere. The book is called "Tamperelainen" (as also a citizen of Tampere is called). According to Izzo, the book is a tribute to a city that he fell in love with.
All the poems in "Tamperelainen" are dedicated to the soul-safe Finnish landscape. They also picture the experiences and thoughts Izzo had while his stay in Finland. All the poems are written both in English and in Italian.
Izzo studied at the University of Tampere in 1999-2000. He remembers this time as one of the most productive and best periods in his artistic life. He misses especially the Tammerkoski rapids around which he liked to go walking. He also misses what he calls "the kindness of the Finns", Finnish SALMIAKKI and MUNKKI, and - of course - all the good friends who he still has in Tampere.
In Italy Izzo studied at Genoa's University. During the recent years Izzo has written many works in Italian, theatrical pieces, and among other things "Eco a perdere". According to Izzo, the title of that book is a joke about the Italian writer Umberto Eco that also means echo in Italian. He says that book is from his escapist period and it is about the modern literature that doesn't leave tracks, "it is just dust on our shell". For this reason he has defined "Tamperelainen" as a book from his so called neo primitivism period, meaning that "from the original form we receive more feeling than from our commercial contemporary art".
Currently Izzo is writing a new book which does not have a title, yet. He sends his best regards to all his friends in the Tampere region.
