You might want to check your prices on your ebooks posted for sale on Lulu. Lulu charges a base price of $1.49 in addition to its customary 20%. You have to click on "revise", then change or approve of the new computation in order for your ebook to sell on the Lulu marketplace. Be sure you do that so your ebooks will continue to be listed. I just found out when I went to change the price on one ebook. Factor in the $1.49 and it will boost your ebook prices above whatever you are charging elsewhere, in order to make the same amount of money in net revenues. Rolling Eyes

The way it originally read and acted last week was that the new surcharge was only if you used the new DRM system to protect the book. For people who still listed e-books for free they couldn't use the DRM system due to the new surcharge and the DRM fee.

Edit:
Yep, just checked by running a revision of my excerpt. To sell, the surcharge is there. I swear it wasn't last week when I set up a new ebook project since I wanted to try out the DRM thing. Rolling Eyes

...and I think Carol wrote in another thread that your original price remains until you do a new revision. Wink

No, the surcharge is there whether you do a revision or not. Remember I just went in to do a price change, and it's there. This in essence makes it not only necessary, but mandatory that I sell the ebooks on my own site in order to make up the difference. Meanwhile, I have yet to see a single print book sale on Lulu. It had better pick up, or I might consider dropping print and just doing ebooks from now on. Outside sales of ebooks are steady for now. And Kindle is stagnant. Shocked Mad

This was in the Lulu Blog and I think it might help clear things up a little bit:

As always, it’s still free to publish, and if you choose, you can continue to give away your digital content for free. For authors who want to sell eBooks and downloads, we’ve added a fixed $1.49 base price to cover our credit card processing and hosting expenses. Applying DRM (optional, eBooks only) adds $.99 to the base price to offset the fee charged by our DRM provider. To reiterate, authors never pay to publish, these fees are reflected in the list price and are only charged to the purchaser at purchase time.

I have asked that the above help node be updated to reflect this new change.
