Stonehell Dungeon is a classic-style megadungeon, filled with enough monsters, traps, weirdness, and treasure to keep you gaming for a long, long time. Explore over 700 rooms, encounter more than 40 new monsters, and discover 18 mysterious magical items -- and that's just in the first book! Stonehell Dungeon: Down Night-Haunted Halls details the first six levels of a megadungeon intended for use with the Labyrinth Lord™ role-playing game, but is easily adaptable to most early versions of the original fantasy role-playing game and its retro-clones. Featuring art by J.A. D'Andrea, Lee Barber, Marcelo Paschoalin, and Ralph Pasucci, Stonehell Dungeon gives the game master all the necessary information to run his players through the dungeon, while offering enormous opportunities to customize and expand on the site. Suitable for characters of levels 1 through 7.

05-Apr-2019An Endzeitgeist.com review My review is too long. You can read it in its entirety here on my homepage: http://endzeitgeist.com/stonehell-dungeon-1-down-night-haunted-halls-osr/ Endzeitgeist out.
14-Dec-2015Stonehell dungeon is a megadungeon for use with Labyrinth Lord. Author Michael Curtis is very serious about his work and no less than 110 out of the 130 pages are dedicated to the 700 plus rooms that together make out the first six levels. The background story is simple but brilliant. Let me elaborate on that: it sets the mood and a thematic backdrop for the game master without really forcing her to remember any details or prepare anything in advance. I really like that the author has provided a “level zero” above ground where new players can take baby steps and find out how the games works in relative safety before entering the first level. The dungeon in itself is crammed with content and offers a nice variation in terms of themes between different parts of each levels as well as between them. The only drawback worth mentioning is that the author feels obliged to tell the reader what everyone already knows: that the game master can decide for himself if he wants to. All in all,... More > Stonehell Dungeon is a really high quality module without being very original. There’s the odd gnoll queen with paramour and the ogres pumping iron, but most of it is just excellent basic fantasy stuff, which is more than enough for me.< Less
11-Mar-2012Stonehell Dungeon is clearly a labor of love, it seems to be priced more or less at cost, $13 for a 130 page book is almost absurd these days. Does the dungeon make sense? More or less. It's an abandoned prison Is there a compelling reason for the PCs to want to explore it? Well, here it breaks down a little. Loot is the driving goal for most PCs in old school games. So the appeal of a lost city, ancient dwarven hold, or a dead wizard's lair is obvious. But what of an old prison? Almost by definition, it's not going to be loaded with treasure. And for the most part, it really isn't. It's also a little dull, again, because it's basically a prison. There's little sense of awe and wonder, more a sense of dread and occasionally "eew". There are lots of nice little touches though.
21-Nov-2010Highly recommended. This is one of the most interesting megadungeons I've seen, and I've been playing D&D since 1981. I was initially skeptical about the variation of the "one-page dungeon" format that Stonehell Dungeon uses, but I was won over once I saw it in print. I am very much looking forward to the sequel which will detail some of the lower levels beneath those detailed here.
