"Leaving Thebes" Tim has expressed his feelings and experiences in Luxor in a way that we could not. Having moved to Luxor we bought copies of this wonderful book to give to family members so that they could understand how we felt about Luxor and why we had moved here.

"Leaving Thebes" I was given this book as a new years present by a thoughtful niece whom I had regaled of my tales of visiting Egypt when I was barely more than a teenager myself. Much has changed since then and yet nothing has changed! I may not recognise the city of Luxor on the East Bank, and sadly there have been changes on the West Bank since my last vist, more years ago now than I care to remember, but nothing can change the enormity of the feeling of visiting the tombs and temples, often speculating on how they were built and the lives of those that built them. Neither can the underlying charm and humour of local people change, no matter their hardships in life. The author's enthusiasm for his first, long awaited visit, shines through and brought back many happy memories for me of a place that I shall no longer see again. I shall look out for future books written by Tim Cooper on his travels in Egypt.

"Leaving Thebes" A perfect mix of history, humour and sentiment. Tim's book reminds us we must look beyond the hassle, the car horns, the frayed edges of the infrastructure; in order to re-connect with the beauty and charm of both the place and the people.

"Leaving Thebes" I have really enjoyed this book as it shows in the truest form how Luxor can afect people and why so many people enjoy visiting there time and time again.
