‘A Journal from the End of Times’ is a contemporary discourse exploring our western lifestyles and examining the current relationship we have with our host planet. Through hope and inspiration gained from time spent with indigenous Mayans in Central America, an alternative world view is on offer here. This book examines the impacts of neoliberalism, climate change and a range of social, political and spiritual issues from within Mesoamerica today and globally. This story is told via a travelogue which details a lengthy and perilous journey taken by myself and a film maker to produce a documentary, ‘2012: The Mayan Word’.

26-Jan-2016I read this book whilst backpacking in South America , it was captivating , exiting , astonishing insight into a world that was completely unknown to me. I especially liked the cross referencing of punk culture in the uk around the 80's living off the land and how he has compared that to the tribes people living off the land getting back to our traditional ways as humans. There was a very factual and educated consultancy of the ecology in the area that he was travelling and i thought that it was brilliant that he shared some of his knowledge with the local people. The anarchistic views were exiting and the tales of peaceful protesting were brilliant. If at least it has changed my opinion on climate change then hopefully this will be fed back into the next generation and a butterfly effect will arise. In short Thank you so much for a book that was definitely worth reading and i would recommend to any one who is interested about other cultures. Cheers
02-Jul-2015Tremendous reading, I enjoyed and laugh lots. Great memories, it helped me to understand the mayan world 2012 actual journey, fantasticcally well describes the documentarie behind the scenes facts. The generational vex is very interesting, I admire the way it had extrapolate our mesoamerican way of being onto the British realm. I had always wondered why non of my overseas friends could not get inspired by our harsh reality and made an insight into their own society and contribute with a very helpful and oportune critique, Grant Riley had done that wonderfully, with a lot of humour and sharpness. Thanks once more for your revelations to the western civilized world.
08-Jun-2015At once a journey through the Mayan heartlands and a philosophical reverie on the end of the world, A Journal from the End of Times offers a unique insight into the mysterious Mesoamerican underworld. From the scalding fires of experience, Grant Riley's on-the-road tales are both hilarious and thoughtful. An epic read.
21-May-2015This book chronicles an extraordinary journey into the heart of Mayan struggle and spirituality, Traveling throughout Central America, from big cities to remote rural hamlets, recording the testimonies of a wide range of contemporary Mayans, from spiritual guides to activists, community leaders, farmers, artists, teachers and children. What is the connection between the ancient prophesies struggle of contemporary Mayans to save their culture and environment from destruction? This book weaves together those encounters with environmental, political and historical commentary and a highly personal and colourful narrative.
21-May-2015The Mayan civilization that flourished in Central America is well known by its great achievements in the fields of astrology, mathematics, art and governance to mention some. Riley in his first book tell us a great deal of their untold story in this remarkable piece, 'A journal from the End of Times'. He not only dives very deep into the Mayan history and it's dramatic current situation but he discovers the connection between their story and ours. A story that works like this helps us comprehend and partake more fully in the great human journey of finding the balance with an ever changing nature.
