Knit A Beach: An Evocative Knitting Workshop
The water’s warm so let’s knit a beach! If you can dream it, you can knit it. Learn how to knit with a guide rather than a pattern with this evocative knitting workshop/pattern. Combined with a knitalong and online tips on my website at Janethornley.com, you can create your own private beach with no long-distance driving, crowded planes or congested highways.
Experience combining simple stitches to create textures that evoke the blue sea frothed with ocean latte and sand hues of a summer beach.
Create a vest/tabard design so gorgeous you won’t want to knit just one. Make yours either fitted or loose and easy or apply the techniques used to another pattern maybe even your own design.
Come on – dive in!

Feather 'n Fan Organic Wrap
What happens if you ‘grow’ a wrap rather than simply knit it and think of a pattern as a seed rather than a plan?
Well, here’s the result: a surprisingly gleeful ruffle of color and texture that hugs your shoulders and drapes like a dream. Knit on size 11US/8mm and 13US/9mm circuliar needles, the beloved feather and fan stitch unfolds in gorgeous flights of texture and color to showcase any yarn to it's best advantage. Mix in mohair to create misty waves amid ridges of chunky fare; add streams of luminesent silk or cotton for a lacy effect amid the hills and valleys. Any yarn, any weight, any fiber, will do. Each combination creates a unique effect and no two projects will or should look the same. The pattern includes suggestions on how to create 'Mist over the Mountain' effects, 'Lace Wings' or 'Foothills and Valley's' as well as a scarf variation of the pattern.
Search my journal for 'Feather 'n Fan Organic Wrap' ( November 07) for more pattern information.

LITTLE FISHIES PANEL SCARF PATTERN
Think of this scarf pattern as a canvas upon which to explore a wide range of scarf-as-jewellery or scarf-as-belt adventures. The central panel becomes the focal point from which you pick up stitches for the left and right sides. For Little Fishies, embellishments are added to the panel by way of i-cord fringes which are further beaded and festooned. Of course, the i-cords could be left off and the scarf transformed into something slightly more ‘plain’ that could even be worn as a belt. Pattern comes with a stitch-by-number map to help guide the yarn changes.

Scotian Meadow Wrap Pattern
It’s a cosy snuggle of a wrap designed to fend off salt-air chills and the fiercest airconditioning attacks. It will sail into fall with grace. One long basketweave-stitched rectangle undulating with seed stitch borders, it’s irregular edges gently widen as the design progresses towards the center, forming a shawl collar. Though mine is knit in a mix of cotton, silk and mohair, any fiber will work. I’ve mixed bulky fibers with thinner yarns doubled and worked the whole on size 9mm needles.

Watergarden Shrug Pattern
This is a true shrug: a shawl with sleeves. The effect is loose, flowing, and almost shawl-like without the fumbling needed to keep a shawl in place. A little shawl collar completes the look. Imagine wearing it on a summer afternoon, to a wedding or a dinner out or, if you’re like me and dress up to go to the mailbox, to toss over jeans while dashing off to meet your day.

Sunset Bolero Vest Pattern
Versatile, flattering and cross-seasonal, this little vest will take you countless places in comfort and style. Wear it over a shirt with jeans for a casual look, over a tank for summer, or with a blouse or turtleneck for fall into winter. Designed to be worn open, it can be knit to hit just above the waist or slightly below and features a chic bolero’s pointed back, which can be eliminated, if desired. The edges are trimmed with a band of thin tape yarn that creates the look of piping when the vest is sewn together. A light pressing alone creates the open v-neck effect
