Jim Perkins
After graduating in physics and mathematics Jim Perkins worked for 38 years in research, industrial training and teaching.
He spends his retirement working as an archivist and writing.
'Big School' is the first volume of his memoirs, and covers the period 1950 - 1958 when he was a pupil at King Edward VI Grammar School for Boys, Aston, Birmingham.
It is a lighthearted reminiscence about what the author regards as one of the four major influences on his life.
The second volume of his memoirs, 'Four Families and a Pharmacist', describes his family history from 1649 to the present day.
In 'Through the Woodsmoke' Jim describes his time in the Boy Scouts, the Methodist church, the motor industry - and how he spends his retirement.
On behalf of his old school, which in 2008/9 celebrated the 125th anniversary of its opening, Jim published 'Salvoes from Lapworth'. This has been followed by 'An Aston Anthology'- the second in a trilogy of books celebrating that anniversary.
