Butler Family Migrations
This is the story of James M. Butler and Patrick Henry Butler. They are sons of Christopher Columbus Butler and Mahala Cole Butler. James was born in Georgia before the family moved to Alabama. Patrick was born after Christopher and Mahala moved to Shelby County Alabama. Around 1830, the family moved to Coosa County Alabama.
James and Patrick both married in Alabama, raised their families and then moved them to Tennessee.
Before the Civil War, they lived near the border between Walker County and Fayette County in
Alabama. They moved to Tennessee after the war with James settling in Decatur County and Patrick
settling in Wayne County.

Montgomerys of Dunbar and Shady Grove
Shortly after the Indian cessation of West Tennessee in 1818, the Montgomery family moved to the southeastern part of West Tennessee. The earliest Montgomery settlers in the area with known descendants are David Montgomery of the Dunbar area of Perry (now Decatur) County and James Montgomery of the Shady Grove area of Hardin County. They both arrived in the area between 1820 and 1830 and lived within 10 miles of each other in these adjoining counties. This second edition book contains my research into the genealogy of these two Montgomery families.
