Book Review By Muses Review

Kit Wilson in Kit Wilson's Blog

__Long Book Review
by Andrew Angus
Muses Review__

Book:Destiny Revealed
Author: Kit Wilson
Genre: Poetry
Publisher: Lulu
Rating: 4 olives

Kit Wilson's first poetrybook, Destiny Revealed, is a compilation of poems with various themes like love, nature, city, family, character study, environment, holidays, pets, sports, philosophy, religious and many more.

Her poem "Nascar Red 8" won the "Best Sports Poem of Year 2005" for 2nd Muses Prize - Poetry. I wonder if Kit Wilson is race car fan because she has two sports poem devoted to car racing - "Thunder Road" and "Nascar Red 8".

Her poem "My Husband is a Redneck" won the "Best Fatherhood Poem of Year 2005" for 2nd Muses Prize - Poetry. The poem is about what fathers (like her husband) do in the family.

Her poem "Free Spirits" won the "Best Inspirational Poem of Year 2005" for 2nd Muses Prize - Poetry. The poem is about people who follow their dreams.

Kit Wilson loves to make character poems such as "The Patient", "The Nurse", "The Student". Character poems are poems that deals with a person that is not named. Kit Wilson is a nurse so it is logical that she has two character poems related to her profession.

She also writes city poems like "Lonesome Train", "The City That Never Sleeps", "Unbelievable Event" ( a poem about 911). Her poem "Lonesome Train" is nominated "Best City Poem of Year 2005" for 2nd Muses Prize.

One of her best poems is "The Blackened Sky" which is a poem about her experience with tornadoes.

One can see the poet's devotion to her family, husband like in the poems, "Grandma's House", "Mother", "To My Husband", "The Truth of the Years", "My Soul Mate", "My Daddy", etc.

"Thank You God for Ares", "Husky Hugs" and "Ares' Hospital Experience" are three poems about her pet dog, Ares.

Her love poems are memorable like "Soft Whispers" and "Like a Flower Blooming In Spring" . Her poem "Soft Whispers" is nominated "Best Love Poem of Year 2005" for 2nd Muses Prize for Poetry.

Her poem "Every Drop of the Rain" and "What Happened to Our Love" are lyrical poems. A lyrical poem is a poem that is like a lyrics of a love song. Kit Wilson should write more lyrical poems.

Her nature poems conjure vivid images such as "The Cry of the Wolf", "The Mountain", "Desolate Beauty". Her poem "The Cry of the Wolf" is nominated "Best Nature Poem of Year 2005" for 2nd Muses Prize.

Her two poems "Personal Space" ( a poem about the internet) and "Keyboard" (poem about the internet also) are devoted to technology. One poem "Our Flag" deals with patriotism.

Three poems are devoted to her state, "So Close Yet So Far Away", "West Virginia Lands", "The Lonely Road".

She also writes religious/inspirational poems such as "Lord and Family", "My Lord Giveth Another Day", "Eyes in the Sky", etc.

It seems to me that Kit Wilson has a happy childhood since I cannot see any poem that deals with angst and torments of growing up. Some of her poems are nostalgic and deals with happy memories.

Kit Wilson's structure of writing poetry is the "block structure" instead of the "quatrain structure" which is widely used by traditional poets. About ninety percent of her poems is in a "block structure". I prefer the quatrain structure since I am traditionalist poet.

Some of her poems are rhymed while most of her poems are in free verse. Her poetrybook is not arranged by chapters. There are 124 poems in her first poetrybook!

The title of her poetrybook "Destiny Revealed" seems to say that her destiny has been revealed to her. Her destiny in love, family, and yes, as a poet.

As a whole, the poetrybook has a positive effect on the readers. I can see a bright future for Kit Wilson in poetry since she won three major category awards (Best Sports Poem, Best Fatherhood Poem and Best Inspirational Poem) and she has many poems nominated (nominated: Best Love Poem, Best City Poem, Best Nature) for the 2nd Muses Prize - Poetry. Just a few more poetrybooks and she could make a name for herself in poetry.

End of review.

This will be published in Muses Review online by April 2007.
