Jacob LaCivita

Writing has been a part of Jacob LaCivita's life both as a hobby and semi-professionally for years. Unpublished works include four screenplays, two episodic television scripts, and two adapted teleplays. He has also ghostwritten a number of professional letters, public speeches, and television monologues for friends and family.

In 1991 he was the writer/producer/creator of The Adventures of Max Cosmic, a short-lived public access TV series (2 episodes written, 1 produced, 1 aired). He attempted a comeback to that format with The Many Lies of Jon & John in 1999 (5 episodes written, 1 partially produced, 0 aired), but shelved the project when he moved to Los Angeles.

Fixated with employment at startup companies, LaCivita has edited, authored or co-authored internal memos, customer emails, public presentations, and website copy for various organizations including iNetNow, i3Mobile, Lycos 411, Stratus Rewards, and Voce Wireless.

He wrote the bowling page for About.com from 1998-2000 and sporadically blogs about technology, gadgets, usability, and the Internet with his cohorts at blog.towform.com.

Although Timely Persuasion is his first novel, it is not autobiographical...at least not yet.

Timely Persuasion
What did Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, and my sister have in common? They were all my friends, and they died.

Timely Persuasion follows an anonymous music critic on a quest to save his sister from the relationship that ended her life. After a chance encounter at a bowling alley leaves him with the ability to travel in time, our hero uses his musical knowledge to “blink” through the years attempting to keep the couple apart by any means necessary. But is her husband Nelson really to blame?

Along the way he launches a new folk rock star, accidentally restructures his family tree, and crosses paths with the likes of Huey Lewis, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, and Billy Joel. Reliving past events through the eyes of his younger selves, he soon finds that correlation and causation are not always what they seem. This story of death, life, love, and rock 'n’ roll defies genre conventions while paying tribute to the classic time travel tales that came before it.
