2007 Nov 23 I only have 6,355 words until I meet my goal of 50,000. I've been going writing crazy these past few days, being out of school for Thanksgiving break. I have the rest of the novel planned out — to an extent — and since I have eight major scenes that still need to work their way in, I will definitely be over 50,000 words when I finish.
Of course, I'm a little worried that once I hit that 50,000 words I will quit, finished or not. I was never the writer that had a novel in the works every time someone asked, so long-term writing is not something I'm familiar with. And though I do love this thing and plan with every bit of me to finish the story, I am worried that ultimately I will get in the way of myself. I'm the person that meets the goal because it's a goal and goes no further, because I've never had to go further and I've never cared to.
So we'll see how this works, yes?
2007 Nov 19 So I've been playing around with the idea of a collection of my poetry for awhile now. A bit of motivation and extra time — where did that come from?? — landed me a new book on the storefront.
up 'til now contains eighty poems that I spent hours and hours and hours picking out of hundreds of poems from the past 3 1/2 years. I hope that someone will pick it up and realize that poetry doesn't have to be amazing from the start, you have to give it time to progress. I hope someone is inspired to stick with writing from this book.
I joined NaNoWriMo. For those of you who don't know, National Novel Writing Month is an international project in November. For those of us crazy to register, we pretty much sign our lives away for the month in order to write 50,000 words. Doesn't have to be good. Doesn't have to make sense. Cannot be edited (until December). Will not be easy. But it does have to be 50,000 words.
My word count is roughly at 31,000+. It's been easier than I imagined it would be at the start, but I think that's because I've been trying to write for a long time but haven't made the time for it.
I find myself growing more and more attached to my novel everyday, and I don't think the story will be over at 50,000 words. I have every intention of finishing this and hopefully publishing it. Look for sometime in 2008.
So I challenge you to write. Just write. Start with 250 words a day. Then 500. Then 750. Then 1,000. You can do it, I promise. You'd be surprised how quickly a hundred words can be obtained.
2007 Apr 01 Well, Spring Break led to the ambitious plan of publishing some of the poetry I've written this year. So with the help of google, I find Lulu.com
And a week after that, wahlah! Book.
