Lev Shneider
I learned to read at four, thanks to my mother, who, before becoming a homemaker, worked as an editor for Emes, a Yiddish paper in postwar Moscow. My first adult book was Spartacus, a six-hundred page volume, which I read to my still-illiterate friends in our backyard. We were all six-year-olds then.
At sixteen I taught myself to play the piano and have played, composed and taught music for a living since. Between the gigs I worked as a drilling machine operator, an assembly line worker, a messenger and a data processor. I also sold hairbrushes as the Fuller Brush boy, success seminars and Amway products, handicapped horses for a part of the winnings, read fortunes, and owned three failed businesses.
My first attempt at writing took place in 1971 with twelve adult fairy tales broadcast on the Lithuanian State Radio, read by an actor while I played piano in the background. Matryoshka is my second attempt, unless you count the brochures I wrote for a holistic health center where I worked as a gofer for seven bucks an hour.

Matryoshka
When his ability to see music and hear paintings fails to explain why he composes a disturbingly unusual music, young musician Lev Portenin’s search for answers takes him to the twilight zone of the origins of mind.
Do you think you're smarter than most? If you are scientifically inclined and Internet-savvy take the Matryoshka challenge for an opportunity of a lifetime at www.scribd.com/doc/4392988/Challenge1.

Iron Crouton #4
In the spring of 2002, Dave Homan, a saxophone player and an instrument inventor, and I gave a freestyle concert at the Ellarslie Museum at Trenton, NJ. We called the performance Iron Crouton and we even had a pile of iron croutons in a saucer by the entrance.
The entire concert was over an hour long. Iron Crouton #4 is my favorite segment. Enjoy!

Just Ask Me
Just Ask Me is a perfect song for an engagement because in it a man asks a woman to be his wife. What makes it remarkable is that the singer who also wrote the lyrics is Mr. Herb Wiener, the author of two #1 hits "The Great Pretender" and "It's My Party"!
You can download it free at www.myspace.com/levshneider but if you are feeling generous we can use your quarter...

Zenna's world
I never studied piano. When I play I try to convey what I feel. I feel music as light or dark, soft or hard, open or closed..I know my music isn't conventional. Some people may consider it noise but this is how I express my feelings!
