This statue of Durga or Bhagwati is incarnated in this beautiful, hand-carved statue as Kali, the Divine Mother. Kali's nurturing side is depicted in this idol that sits on top of Palanchowk Hill in Dhulikhel. Though not officially declared, it is believed to be built by King Mandev, (around 2,500 years ago).

I believe this little girl is the daughter of the sari shop owner. This is in a very busy intersection in the neighborhood called Indra Chowk in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is an old neighborhood where locals come to shop for garments, traditional metal wares for worshipping or cooking, jewelery and just about anything else there is to sell. Saris are traditional women's garment made of yards of material traditionally made of silk chiffon that is artfully draped around the hips and over the shoulder. It has been worn for thousands of years in Nepal and India.
