Bath is a city in Somerset in the south west of England. The city was founded, among surrounding hills, in the valley of the River Avon around naturally occurring hot springs where the Romans built baths and a temple, giving it the name Aquae Sulis. Edgar was crowned king of England at the Bath Abbey in 973. Much later, it became popular as a spa resort during the Georgian era, which led to a major expansion that left a heritage of exemplary Georgian architecture crafted from Bath Stone. The city is a World Heritage Site.

Venice, has been known as the "City of Water" among other names. In my view, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. This is a small homage from a weary traveler who found herself captivated by its beauty, walking around during the course of 3 rainy days. Venice resonates with me: across the ocean, for I live in a city called "The Venice of America."

Toledo reached its zenith in the Islamic Caliphate era, as many Muslim scientists of this age were not rivaled in the world.

The old city is located on a mountaintop surrounded on three sides by the Tagus River. Many famous people were born or lived in Toledo such as El Greco. These Roman baths are located in the city of Bath, England. A shrine at the site of these hot springs was built by Celts and was dedicated to the goddess Sulis, whom the Romans identified with Minerva; however, the name Sulis continued to be used after the Roman invasion, leading to the town's Roman name of Aquae Sulis (literally, "the waters of Sulis"). Messages to the Goddess Sulis-Minerva were scratched onto metal, known as curse tablets and have been recovered from the Sacred Spring. These curse tablets were written in Latin, and usually laid curses on people by whom the writer felt they had been wronged. The temple was constructed in 60-70 AD and the bathing complex was gradually built up over the next 300 years.

Montserrat is a mountain near Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. It's the site of a Benedictine abbey: Santa Maria de Montserrat, a place of pilgrimage which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary and which is identified by some with the location of the Holy Grail in Arthurian myth. The Publicacions de l'Abadia de Montserrat is the oldest press in the world with the first book published in 1499. It's still running. Montserrat means serrated mountain in Catalan. It describes the peculiar aspect of the rock formation, which is visible from a great distance. During Franco's rule Santa Maria de Montserrat was a place of refuge for scholars, artists, politicians and students. The Basilica houses a museum with works of art by prominent painters and sculptors including works by El Greco, Dalí, Picasso and many more. The abbey can be reached by road, cable car or railway.

SEASONS & SONNETS
ART AND POETRY

8x11 Softcover Edition
112 pages, full color photographs

A stunning collection of Shakespearean Sonnets by poet MICHAEL D. PETTI and nature photography by MINERVA BLOOM; a collaboration that reflects on love and life in its moods and seasons. A stirring verse introduces each season, hinting at the visual and poetic feast that follows, be it a landmark or a subtle, intimate detail:

"Winter's tomb becomes spring's womb and thus the cycle of life is renewed and recreated."

The script of each year is one of change, but that change composed of each season's chapter, is reliable and knowable. What we believe we may lose in summer, we also believe we will find once more. In each autumn leaf that turns, in each winter snowflake's crystal, in each spring's thaw: Upon each of our hearts, each season writes its magic...

Introduction: Many moments we often pass by and take for granted. They vanish while our busy minds ruminate endlessly. All the while we miss what is right in front of us which is the present moment. Our duty should be to inhabit this precise second of existence. To this end the ancient art of haiku is ‘Zen’ for it takes these tangible concrete moments of time and crystallizes their essence in as few words as possible. The haijin (haiku poet) is thus constrained to relay a significant event in few syllables. Haiga is still a young art in the West but the principles established in Japan offer a good background for experimentation and development. When haiku are embedded in an art piece it is called haiga. In modern haiga the image and the haiku poem are coupled with a 'haiku-moment'. This haiku moment is described as a moment of transcendence. Original bilingual haiga by Minerva Bloom.
