National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc. (“NCBF”) presents the National Cherry Blossom Festival Photo Contest (“Contest”). This Contest is sponsored and administered by Lulu Press (“Lulu”), 860 Aviation Parkway, Suite 300, Morrisville, NC  27502.

We are looking for photographs that capture the spirit of the National Cherry Blossom Festival (“Festival”). Your entry could be selected to appear in the 2009 Official National Cherry Blossom Festival Calendar (“Calendar”) and you could win prizes.

Contest Rules

  1. To enter, you must be a legal U.S. resident and 18 or older after March 30, 2008. You may be a professional or amateur photographer. You may not enter if you are or if an immediate family member (parent, child, sibling or spouse) of yours is an NCBF or Lulu employee, subsidiary, or affiliate, or if you are someone who advertises or promotes for NCBF or Lulu.
  2. You may submit only one entry in color, duotone, or black and white (“Entry”). If you submit more than one Entry, we will disqualify all of your Entries.
  3. Submit your Entry with the form online at www.lulu.com/blossoms from March 29, 2008 through April 30, 2008. We will not accept early or late Entries.
  4. Your Entry must: a) be 4125 pixels wide by 3075 pixels tall or larger (13.75” x 10.25” at 300 dpi resolution); b) be reproduceable in all types of print media; c) not contain any recognizable name, face or likeness of any person, branded product, brand name, logo or mark; and d) show one or more facet of the Festival.
  5. By entering the Contest, you certify that your Entry: a) is a photograph taken by you and that you own all rights in it including copyrights; b) is original and has not been modified or altered; c) does not infringe on third-party rights; d) has not been published, e) is not pending publication; and f) has not won other contests. Any entry that does not meet these criteria is ineligible.
  6. When you submit your Entry, you: a) represent that you have reviewed and agree to these Contest Rules; b) grant the NCBF a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide license to use your Entry in the 2009 Official National Cherry Blossom Calendar and in any other way and in any other media; and c) grant NCBF and Lulu the right to modify your Entry for print-readiness so long as those modifications do not materially alter the content of the Entry. We may check your entry form or your compliance with these Contest Rules at our option.
  7. All Entries, including all photographs and other materials provided by entrants become the sole property of NCBF and will not be acknowledged or returned.
  8. We are not responsible for your Entry if it is lost, late, misdirected, stolen, illegible, undelivered, damaged, reproduced mechanically, forged, falsified, altered, or tampered with. Those Entries will be disqualified. We are also not responsible for any technical problems in the transmission or receipt of your Entry.
  9. You do not need to buy anything in order to enter or win the Contest.
  10. Your chances of winning depend on quality of your photo as evaluated by our judges, whose decisions are final. Our judges, members of the design, photography and marketing industry, will look for creativity, image quality and marketability. Two category winners will be selected, one from the “scenery” category and one from the “festival events” category. An overall winner will be selected from the two category winners, with the overall winner appearing on the cover of the 2009 Calendar. We will email you by May 30, 2008 if you are one of the 12 finalists or the category winners. If you win, before awarding any prize, we may require you to provide proof of your identity, and to complete, sign, and return affidavits of eligibility, liability releases and publicity releases within ten days. If you don't complete these forms, if we cannot find you, or if our emails to you are returned as undeliverable, your prize may be forfeited and we may award your forfeited prize to an alternative winner that we select.
  11. If you are a finalist or category winner, we will award you: a) the honor of your Entry and name appearing in the Calendar; b) one copy of the Calendar (Premium version); and c) one Festival prize package. If you are one of the category winners, we will also award you two tickets anywhere that Southwest Airlines flies and two additional copies of the 2009 Calendar.
  12. One overall winner will be selected to appear on the cover of the 2009 Calendar.
  13. We may post a list and photos of the winners and their Entries at our websites after we award the prizes.
  14. We may provide winners with IRS Form 1099s or other tax form for the approximate retail value of prizes. Winners are solely responsible for any taxes associated with any gift or prize.
  15. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO DAMAGE OUR WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE CONTEST, WE MAY SEEK ANY REMEDY AVAILABLE TO US AT LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION. If this Contest cannot be run or completed as planned, we may disqualify anyone who interferes with the Contest and select winners from all eligible entries received prior to the cancellation or termination.
  16. THIS CONTEST IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.
