Traditional Christmas Carols For Guitar Solo
A selection of best loved traditional carols arranged for students over many years. These have worked well for me. In addition to old favourites and must haves there are some slightly less usual carols in this collection for solo fingerstyle guitar.
Each includes a single note version for pre-grade one players, sometimes in an easier key, and a full version for the more experienced. I have produced separate pages for notation and TAB - two reasons - minimizing page turns which guitarists hate and encouraging reading. However TAB readers are well catered for with TAB versions of all full solos. Standard ranges from grade 1 to grade 4.

Traditional Christmas Carols for Guitar Ensemble
This book is a selection of new arrangements of well known and well loved carols for beginner guitar ensembles. The author is a guitar teacher with 30 years experience both as teacher and performer. The level of ability within the arrangements is from pre-grade 1 up to grade 3. There are guest parts for drums, recorder and cor anglais on individual carols (and all have a single note melody part which is transferable to other instruments). Fonts are large with note name noteheads and TAB. All carols have been chosen as personal favourites by the author and for their traditional warmth and Christian feel although some arrangements are quite upbeat. Contents are:

This CD-ROM contains the complete text of the music books in the Band In A Jam project, including scales and diagrams and the full score. These are in pdf format for easy access in the classroom and easy display on an interactive whiteboard. Purchase price takes account of allowing the purchaser to print off parts as necessary for classroom or band use within their own school.
The CD ROM also contains WAV files of the tunes in the project. Please note that these files will not usually play on a CD player. As this is a data disc they too can be listened to via interactive whiteboard. A separate audio CD is available for individual or home use with CD players.

Songs of the Reef - 8 Octo-Pieces for Young Guitarists
Songs of the Reef has a sea theme, led by the Octopus on the cover. Many thanks to Colin Mason, for the wonderful purple Octopus who even holds his guitar correctly!
I call these Octo-Pieces because they explore octaves! Very young children often learn music happily through note names and Kodaly hand signals, coming to notation later. At this point the guitar offers bewildering choices. This was written as a fun way of getting children used to high and low versions of the same note!
Song of the Reef contains easy to read large notation with note name noteheads. I wanted to produce an attractive book for young guitarists at an early stage of reading and playing. The pieces are from grade 1 to grade 3 level.
In the later pieces, higher notes and harmonics are added and special effects and dynamics are explored.
I know my pupils like these pieces, my hope is that they will become a firm favourite with young guitarists of all ages, from 6-106!

Band In A Jam - Guitar
This book contains all the six string guitar parts for Band in a Jam which aims to encourage improvising in a band context. (This was written for KS2 and KS3 rock bands with orchestral parts added and is suitable also for guitar projects and class bands). This book contains all the parts for the guitars.
Beginner parts have note names in the noteheads and stave size is larger to facilitate reading. Harder parts may also have TAB versions.
Scales for jamming are given in easy, first position and higher position forms with notation and TAB. Each scale has a corresponding fretboard diagram showing most of the notes in the range of acoustic guitar.
This is a very visual book, intended to be useful to all readers. A whole fretboard view of each scale (in diagram form with notenames) is also given for the more adventurous player. For the last tune only there are also suggested arpeggio patterns for tapping. These are in music, TAB and whole fretboard diagram form.

Laetitia's veil
This exotic and upbeat track was composed for a mixed ensemble and I composed it based on the Indian mode, Rag Darbari. It is in the unusual time signature of 7/8, with handclap and sleighbell percussion, which gives it a "Dave Brubeck meets belly dances in Hungary at a violin festival" kind of feel. It features sitar, flute and sarangi as main instruments. Fun it is, catchy it is, exotic it is....

Fantasy for Piano
This is an impressionist style track, very dreamy and romantic in nature and a little bit reminiscent of early Debussy and Ravel. The harmonies are lush and the effect of the arpeggios is I hope aspirational despite the alternation of major and minor feel. The overall feel for me in composing this was day dreaming, love and wonderment. In mixdown, I doubled the piano with harp to get more of a concert grand effect but apart from EQ there are no effects as I wanted the music to shine by itself in all its simplicity and spaciousness. I uploaded a preview myself as I could't get the lulu one to generate, it is a short selection from an earlier rough mix, complete with rumble and hiss :).

On Wenlock Edge - 100 Years On
Vaughan Williams is a favourite composer of mine. My introduction to his music came at the age of eight when I sat at my father’s feet spellbound by the shivery sounds of the Tallis Fantasia.
This book is my own study of the songs of Ralph Vaughan Williams. It was first written in 1979 and I am publishing it celebrate the centennial of the first performance of Vaughan Williams’ masterpiece, On Wenlock Edge, in the Aeolian Hall, London, by tenor Gervase Elwes and the Schwiller Quartet with Frederick Kiddle (piano) 0n 15th November 1909. lts reception was mixed at the time as it was so new and impressionistic for a world used to Stanford, Parry and the great German tradition. I hope music lovers will be with me in spirit in my celebration of a truly wonderful piece of music and if you have not yet made its acquaintance that this book might stir your interest in listening to or performing it.

Tadpole's Illustrated
Tadpole and Co were active in the mid 1980s on the alternative comedy scene in Britain. They performed with such greats as Jo Brand and Henry Normal. This book is a reissue of Tadpole's Illustrated, first published in 1986 for sale at gigs. Illustrations are by Colin Mason (aka Oliver Tadpoles) and rhymes by Oliver and Laetitia Tadpole (Lisa Marie Gabriel). Tadpole and Co were never PC - they always refused to be sheeple - but not quite offensive enough to be taken seriously. Billed by Nick Toczek as the "Essence of English Eccentricity" their claim to fame was the sinking of the Titanic (and later the eruption of Vesuvius destroying Herculaneum) in music - guitar, saxophone and congas - it was heroic, amazing, unbelievably silly and great fun to be a part of. Here in this beautifully illustrated slim volume are some of the immortal rhymes and some of the immoral ones too...

Joy To Thee O Queen of Heaven
A very exuberant anthem of the hymn to the Virgin which will sound wonderful performed by a highly competent large choir (whether amateur or professional)! The text is suitable mainly for Christmas or Easter festivities - particularly Christmas. The vocal range of this piece is wide, where notes are too high or low they may be edited by a choirmaster, but the ideal would be to use the entire range to get the full harmonic effect. A dramatic and energetic anthem to bring joy dynamically into the Christian story.

Happiness
This is a setting of one of my own poems, Happiness, to music for SSAT unaccompanied choir. It is a poem I read at my parents' Golden Wedding and I think this anthem would be suitable for any happy celebration but probably specifically a wedding. It could be performed as a sacred or secular anthem and would thus suit any wedding, not just a Christian or church wedding, although that is the setting the music would probably work best in!

Cleopatra At The Wok
Written after a request by a friend for more unusual time signature pieces - and "belly dancing" music. This one takes the rupa from rag marva and combines marva, malsri and the blues scale in a real piece of far east and jazz fusion. It uses mellotron (voice synth), shakuhachi flute, guitar, phased bass, taiko drum, sleighbells, body percussion, cymbals and sitar. Composed and mixed by myself. The sheet music will shortly be available for download on www.sibeliusmusic.com as are many of my other compositions.

Band In A Jam - Keyboard
This is the keyboard manual for Band In A Jam. It contains the keyboard parts for the grooves in music notation. There are blank pages for teachers to notate possible riffs and chords in note name form if necessary or give practice instructions. It also contains easy to read scales for jamming (note names inside the heads). The keyboard parts are of at least grade 1 level, some of them are quite hard to play, but they may be simplified if necessary by playing separate hands or simply jamming.
