Such a cool idea! My first thought when I saw this was, 'That's funny and incongruous.' But then I had to wonder: Why is it incongruous? Why don't we think of intellectual pursuits as an ingredient in sex-appeal? Wouldn't we all be happier with lovers who are smart, inquisitive and passionate about learning? Wouldn't we all like to be with someone who is exploring their horizons and engaging in activities that bring out the best in them? So why don't we more often celebrate those behaviors as attractive? Why do we automatically assume that a bikini is sexy, but not automatically assume the same of reading, art or math? What is it that makes chess seem like a funny thing to include in a pin-up calendar? I, for one, think Leslie McAllister has hit the nail on the head here. Playing chess IS sexy. And now we get to be reminded of that for the next 12 months. I look forward to every one of them!
