This is *the* authoritative, must-have book on instrument tube amplifier design. Very highly recommended. The language is accessible and understandable, but still provides a rigorous treatment of the subject area.

"Invaluable tool" Besides a scope and a soldering iron this is the best tool a guitar valve amp designer, builder or enthusiast could own. Well thought out and written with numerous figures, examples, and formulas covering just about anything you could want to know from preamp to phase inverter for guitar and bass!

"LOVE IT!!" This book is outstanding!!! I have read a few books on this subject (including the ultimate tone series by Kevin O'Connor) and I have to say, hands down, the way Mr. Blencowe explains things is the clearest and most informative...from a technical and theoretical perspective.

I think it is because he assumes the reader doesn't know much going in. Too many books assume too much and throw around jargon that only people in the amp design business would know...almost makes me think they are trying to impress other amp designers instead of conveying their ideas in the clearest way. This is not the case with Mr. Blencowe...very straight forward and yet VERY informative.

I can't wait for his power amp companion...that's coming, right? :-)

A CUTE BOOK IN APPEARANCE, THAT PACKS A MEGATON WORTH OF WALLOP WITHIN ITS PAGES! This, in my opinion, is one of the most well written, and comprehensive books on this subject. It will hold the attention of any reader who is interested in this subject matter, and is not dry as many scientific publications can be. For a breath of fresh air, Merlin also refrains from passing on his own personal biases, and preferences as fact to the reader, which unfortunately has plagued many other modern publications regarding Amplifier design. What is stated as fact however, is certainly backed up by empirical data, and cited references for further research, if the reader chooses. I can not advocate for this book enough, and I think it is worth a lot more than its price! I look forward to more books by Merlin Blencowe in the future. -Joey
