For the first time, all five Doctor Death pulp adventures are collected in two volumes in this series authorized by the Ward estate. Volume 2 contains the two unpublished stories from 1935: "Waves of Madness" and "The Red Mist of Death," both complete for the first time. Includes an all new introduction by Matthew Moring.
As there is no description of this book, this review will stand in for that.
Doctor Death was a short-lived 'villian pulp'. That is, a pulp magazine (cheap fiction magazine of the early 20th century) devoted to a single character, in this case, a villian rather then a hero.
Doctor Death was published by Dell Magazines in 1935. It was a retitling of their prior "All Detectives" magazine, and just before the retitle they ran 4 stories about ANOTHER "Doctor Death" villian. You can read those stories in the "Complete Doctor Death in All-Detective" ALSO published by Altus Press.
Doctor Death ran 3 issues and was cancelled. ALL 3 issues are reprinted in the... More > first volume. 2 more were written, and those are reprinted in the this volume. These 2 novels previously saw print in pulp fanzines, so this is the first time these 2 have more wider availability. The 2 novels are "Waves of Madness" and "The Red Mist of Death". All stories were published under the 'house pseudonym' of "Zorro", but were really written by Harold Ward, a long-time pulp author.
Doctor Death was really a crazy scientist named "Dr. Rance Mandarin". He felt the earth was overpopulated, and so to deal with that, went after the human race with a variety of evil means. He basically wanted to reduce the population and return us to the stone age. He was opposed by Jimmy Holm, a millionarie and criminologist, backed by a secret group of 12 that included the US President. < Less
