I have had this book in e-form since it was published on the author's website a number of years ago. As a long time Shotokan practitioner and sensei, I have known that the author has always been a somewhat controversial figure among Shotokan sensei. However, having been raised an occidental (in Los Angeles) but being of Japanese ancestry, I have always found his commententary and insights to be very direct and observant. Much of what he says in his writings, most of us have "thought", but not dare verbalized to our Japanese sensei. This book concisely materializes and coalesces the thoughts that have been running through our minds for years. This book is the occidental's book of understanding our kata practice and is probably the way we should view our kata understanding. Rob's thoughts and ideas are always refreshing and worth contemplating...even if you don't agree. For that reason, you should read this book. I'm glad he's published this one for everyone.
