"A Great Read!"
I honestly enjoyed this book on many levels, and have to applaud the authors on a well researched and well written book that makes history very accessible. Where some history books can be dry and laden down with facts and figures, Harris and Hughes present quite fascinating facts and figures in a fun, friendly, and personal way.

What is great about this book is that it covers several thousands of years of history, but all in one small area of the English countryside. Unlike too much of the world, this stretch of land called the Wyre has yet to be paved over with parking lots and strip malls, and this is a blessing because this bit of land has seen a lot of... More > history. And this history is still there, lying just beneath the soil and waiting to be rediscovered.

Harris and Hughes are just the ones to do this. They give us a lot of the Wyre's history, but also expose us to many of its mysteries. By the time you're done with this book, you'll be packing a shovel and calling your travel agent with an itch to go forth and help this team of investigators get to the bottom of these mysteries.

I also have to point out that the book is loaded with wonderful illustrations by Mr. Hughes that give it an even more personal and unique quality.

I don't think there is anything else like it out there, and if you have an interest in history, I truly believe that you will enjoy this book.

Cheers, JOHN :0) < Less
