This book presents a compilation of essays and speeches by the author and other contributors on various issues surrounding HIV/AIDS in the African American community. Dr. Foster draws on her extensive community based and advocacy work in preventive medicine/public health and her passion in preventing HIV/AIDS in the African American community, both in urban and rural communities. Thank you current readers. I have been getting a great response from the community on the book. It appears to be empowering as well as eye-opening for many who did not know the impact that this disease is having on the entire community. The AframSouth family continues to think of ways to get the word out about the book in order to mobilize the community into positive action. I encourage those who are already in the fight to keep the faith and for those new to the struggle to stay the course until the majority of the community is informed, empowered, and engaged.
"Greatness"
Greatness can be decribed as being something of tremendous worth or value. Voltaire' asserts that "True greatness consists in the use of powerful understanding to enlighten oneself and others". Dr. Foster's work is indeed great in that it provides a unique view of the HIV/AIDS pandemic that will enlighten/educate the uninformed and will endure for generations. Her observations and insightful commentary make this a 'must read' for all members of the black community as well as a clarion call that the time for action is 'NOW". The combination of essays and personal relections gives this work an appeal that even the casual reader will find spellbinding and compelling reading. this... More >
