In his story "And The Egret Cawed" Thomas Gilbert has assembled a quirky group of downhome redneck trailer inhabitants that will tickle your funny bone and warm your heart. This group of social outcasts help Debbie Dollar and her husband Charlie Clyde through some tough times, providing them with an education that can only be had by the likes of the folks living at the Egret Landing Mobile Estates in Wicksburg, Alabama. I read the story in one sitting, unable to put the book down, except when I was laughing so hard it fell out of my hands. Read this book for an honest, funny, irreverent, and ultimately, touching story of simple honest folks learning life's lessons from a bunch of quirky social outcasts.

It was a great read, laughed my rear off. Witty and humorous. Look forward to more from Mr. Gilbert.

Mr Gilbert delivers wit, humor, and a complex insight into a diverse group of characters. At any time, I could see myself as any of the characters. Mr. Gilbert presents such a variable depth to each personality, while still allowing the storyline to remain simple and easy to follow. Each character carried traits that I could relate to from either my own experiences or those of family or friends. Loved the ending - through chaos and turmoil, it ends with a peaceful and thought provoking moment that leaves the reader wanting for more, yet feeling satisfied and content. This was my first read of Thomas Gilbert, and I look forward to reading others in the future. If you enjoy a strong sense of humor and wit mixed with an off-beat slant, I highly recommend this book.

Loved the book! It had me laughing out loud and the characters are hilarious. Didn't want the book to end. Can't wait until the next book by Thomas Gilbert comes out.
