Have you ever lived with someone who drove you totally nuts? Did you even think about killing them? If you have then you can identify with Alice Pendleton. She is the main character in Kristin Shoemaker's "Aurora Borealis."



Alice is an author who has just received her first contract. She is still reeling from the thought of having her first book published when her older sister, Aurora, shows up. Aurora has just lost her millionaire husband and his fortune and needs some place to live. Alice feels an obligation because they are sisters and takes her... More > in.



From that moment to the end of the book, Aurora tries to take over Alice's life. She is also bent on revenge against her husband's children for tossing her out. She pressures Alice to write and badgers her when she doesn't. She is constantly up to something.



When the mailman doesn't succumb to her charms and chooses Alice instead, Aurora plans to ruin Alice. She almost pulls it off, but Alice finds out in time to save herself.



If you are looking for a light read, with humor and just a touch of reality, "Aurora Borealis" is the book for you. Kristin Shoemaker has captured frustration at its worst. She has also made the reader deal with obligations and guilt. You want to take Aurora out and toss her into the ocean just to save Alice any more trouble or embarrassment.



How does Alice finally deal with Aurora? I'd be remiss if I told you the ending. You'll have to nab this book for yourself and find out.

This is the type of book that draws you in from the very first page. It kept me curious as to what would happen next; a very page turner.


Alice is definately an identifiable character for writer's everywhere I think. Or at least to me where the frustration to write comes into play with the things of everyday life getting in the way. Accept for Alice, she only wanted to write. Not to say that is a bad thing; but life with variety is good too.


There is a sense of animosity brimming underneath each character as well as something sinister about each one. There are disturbing parts as well as I found some slightly amusing; of course it depends on what you... More > find humorous. I felt Alice was ignored more than she should have been as well as slighted of respect by those who should have been close to her.


The characters definately all got under my skin as I kept wanting more from each one. I know I was beyond curious about Carrie. Over all; you should definately get yourself a copy of this book. < Less
