Autoretrato comes from the woodcut Fernando Zobel bought and donated to the Ateneo Art Gallery. This won first prize in the Art Association of the Philippines' graphic art contest. This is an apt title for an exhibition that sums up the artist's life's work - so far. An autoretrato or self-portrait is an artist's representation of himself. His image usually includes his mood or feeling at that time, or makes plain his age. In Aviado's Autoretrato, a young man without spectacles sits with his legs and arms tightly crossed, trying to look unperturbed by those gazing at him.
