And I have to thank you for something else. Last year I had the chance to coach a school team (varsity girls team). Before I started to work with the girls I wanted to learn, how to work with younger players, because I always had players who were older. During my researches I came across your book Blitz Basketball. I have to say it was the book that helped me the most -by far! I did a lot of the drills recommended in the book and wanted the kids to make their own decisions, on which they could build on. For example... More > I never criticize their shot selection and force all player (also the tall ones) to dribbel the ball by playing drills like the military and the rugby drill. At the end of the season my centers were scoring coast to coast by a lay-up after getting the defensive rebound. And players who never scored the entire previous season (before I took over the team) were making baskets (they had to do push-ups after taking a bad shot and centers weren’t allowed to dribble the ball. If they did they had to do push-ups). Trusting in the girls was the best thing I could do, it really payed off. The season was only 3 months (3 trainings a week) long but the results my team achieved were amazing. Competing against other school teams we won the swiss national championchip (my team is from Zurich, Switzerland) and in the european championchip (Division 2) we made it to the final, which means we go up to Divsion 1 next year. The were so happy! But even if would had such tremendous success it would have been a great season because the girls developed so much as basketball players. But most of all they had so much fun playing the game, which had a lot to do with what I learned through your book.

I read other books of yours since then and I sure will continue doing that. It helped, helps and will help me a lot as coach (or basketball teacher). The way you approach to teach the game of basketball correspond to my philosophy of teaching/coaching and inspires me a lot.

Sorry for writing so much and again for my bad english, I hope you could follow me. < Less
