I received Joaquin Carvel's book about three weeks ago, and since then I have been reading through it, skimming through the pages, going over some of the poems over and over and finding new layers with each new reading. Joaquin Carvel is a magician with words being his tricks. His poetry engulfs, surrounds, and penetrates the mind, heart, and soul. His words are biting and painful and lyrical and sad and happy and energetic and new. He is a rare talent and a true gem of a writer. I very highly recommend this collection.

After reading each poem, you put your head back, close your eyes and say, "I WISH that I would've written this" Blood & Irony is an experience not to be missed. Joaquin's Carvel's unending creativity and originality is honestly astounding. This is like NO other collection of poetry that you will ever read.

I've placed Joaquin Carvel's poetry book between my Norton Anthology and the collected works of e.e. cummings. It fits right in. His poems are musical, poignant, and meant to be savored. I can't recommend this book highly enough. The best $9.00 I've spent in a very long time.
