This is the story of Bob Tweedy's 37-year career in engine service for three railroads. Bob went to work on the New Haven Railroad's Boston Division as a steam locomotive fireman in 1942. Promoted to engineer in 1953, Bob ran local freights, symbol freights, and passenger trains across southeastern Massachusetts as well as between New Bedford, MA and the big Cedar Hill yard just outside of New Haven, CT. Bob became a Penn Central employee after PC took over the bankrupt New Haven Railroad on January 1, 1969. He then worked for Conrail after CR took over the troubled Penn Central in 1976. Bob retired from the railroad in 1979. The story of Bob Tweedy's railroad career is of great interest to anybody who is interested in railroading or trains.
