This is the worst book possibly written. It makes my brain hurt trying to read it after the first several chapters. It's as if the author had a mental break down and somehow degenerated into a 1st grade english student. The book steals many elements from others despite the author's insult of "12 year old fantasy" books. The protagonist with a "mysterious" past who becomes the ultimate fighting machine after "a mysterious voice inside him" activates him like a Super Saiyan. It's predictable and sad. If you CAN actually read this book you'll note the numerous grammatical errors that plague it like the editor gave up after awhile and just let the author's raw... More > talent flow. Of course when your raw talent is a weak little drip it becomes glaringly tough to pull this off. The pace of the action in the novel is painstakingly slow to painstakingly "what the hell is going on?". The fight sequences are impossible to follow due to the author's inability to correctly assign pronouns or actually use them at all. The dialogue is poorly worded as well as impossible at times to follow who is actually speaking. Often times there is just a floating bit of dialogue with no attached character when there is a group talking and you've gotta just assume whoever said it is unimportant since most of the characters are bland and two dimensional anyways. In fact there's really no back story to them at all. It just seems like a bunch of guys banding together to fight evil just because it's there to fight. No plot twists, no epic struggle of good and evil. Everything feels so forced. The character's amazingly awful sequence where he asks a female character out had me in tears from laughter. The author seems like the type to write bad Adam Sandler date movies (Wait there are GOOD ones? Rimshot!) and I hope to see his screen plays in the future.

This is a great book to download and try to read if you'd like to bring it into a classroom and show your students how NOT to write. In fact, See Spot Run is a much better book than Children of Ruin. It should be a crime for grammar to get this poor, plot to get this bad and copyrights to get this infringed. The author blatantly stole town names from the MMO Ultima Online and attempted to pass them off by adding a single letter to the end or changing one. I hope Electronic Arts sues the pants off this guy.

In short this book will hit you, and I quote the author, "in the direct brain". Avoid at all costs. < Less
