In the words of the author, “Wordsworth was a great poet, but as a nature-lover he had a long way to go.” In this collection Mildred M. Jeffrey addresses this issue, reflecting on the beauties as well as the quirks and oddities of the natural world. She draws our attention to the "ceremonial gathering" of sequoia trees, the scent of bruised mint and the gardener’s annoyance at “ivy carousing into the lawn.” With an evocative vocabulary, Jeffrey brings to the reader a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world that surrounds us all.
Mildred M. Jeffrey, a published novelist and associate professor emerita of English, Hofstra University, was an editor of Xanadu, a nationally circulated poetry journal for twenty years. She is a member of the Poetry Society of America and the New England Poetry Club. Her fiction includes Daughter, Oh My Daughter; Walking the Cliffs, and Rejoice. Her poetry books are Detours and Intersections and also True Lies.
